Manex, thank you for the hand-on review. That is really a drag as there seems to be a fairly decent used market for the Empress. I did write Ben @ Red Witch to see if he could put bass clips on his site.

It's really a drag to see that the TC Electronic and the Carl Martin require an AC outlet. For me that would narrow things down.

I wish that the mini-Analogman had the capability to also have the deep mod switchable. And it's a drag that the standard box can't fit the "mix" mod on that model.:rollno:

I've had a few really great chorus pedals over the past few years, but the one I use the most now is a BBE Mind Bender. The chorus is allegedly based on the Way Huge Blue Hippo and it is really thick and deep ......... more-so than the Small Clone or Homebrew THC. The BBE has no extraneous noise, handles hot input signals, runs on 9 volts, is compact, has true-bypass switching :rolleyes:, is set for unity gain, retains bass frequencies and sounds badass.

The other top contenders I've had are the MXR M-134 Stereo Chorus (a little too subtle for me), Homebrew Electronics THC (awesome with fretless!), EHX Small Clone (great sound, crappy build quality), and Digitech Bass Multi-Chorus.

I still have the BBE and THC and I switch between them depending on what I'm doing.

i don't think you don't need the deep mod switchable. i have my guitarist AM Mini without the deep setting to compare with my Mini which has the fixed deep setting mod. the one without the mod sounds thin for bass. so i think the fixed deep setting mod is the way to go, unless you need a thin sounding chorus on your bass.

The MXR has a lot going for it but it can't hold a candle to the warm lush tone of the Diamond. I have both and was absolutely blown away by the difference when I a/b compared them.

The MXR doesn't have the warm mid presence that the Diamond provides. The Diamond is expensive, large and requires 24v, but the tone is to die for!
