Your favorite exotic top

Like others , it all depends on the peice of wood , Curly Koa, Claro Walnut are probably my very favorites ,I'm a sucker for Burl . I have sets of Amboyna, Maple and Redwood Burl that are all stunning.

I'm pretty partial to bocote and cocobolo tops, especially if the cocobolo has some sap wood mixed into a book match.

I've always loved spalted maple. It just looks so organic. Someday I'll own a Spector with a spalted maple top.

On an acoustic, bear-claw spruce. Bear claw is my FAVOURITE type of wood EVAH!!!!

On a solid? Spalted maple? Cocobolo? Quilted ash? Ziricote? Padauk? Macassar ebony? Ovangkol? There's too many to mention, sorry

I think it really depends on the particular piece of wood and the finish, but my faves are still spalt or quilt maple - like the rastaburst Dingwall for one.

is the burling/spalting/quilting a natural element of the wood, or is it revealed after a certain way of sanding or preparing the wood.

..as you can see I am not well versed in these things. I tend to not like the look of all of these kinds of basses so i don't know much about them.

Give me a nice, well painted and lacquered bass anytime! If I had to pick though, I do like the quilted maple or ash...

Funny, some of these exotic woods are very nice, but scrolling through this thread when it comes down to it I like the sparkle-finished bass best.
