I've said it before: Put a value to your time. ( I am attempting to sound wise here, not grumpy, probably failing miserably; no doubt I will find out shortly )

Even if a cable from an excellent maker is a "little expensive", truly place a value to your time trying to replicate that same thing. I would bet you are better-off buying a pre-made, quality cable - unless you have already made it in life and hobbies like making cables keep you from getting into fights with your wife. I get that, and more power to you!

Else, it would be like letting the drummer play your bass to save a couple of coins - eh?

I buy what strikes my fancy, often cables on sale from Guitar Center, but never expensive cables. Cable = cable = cable. As long as the plugs are correctly attached, they work.

Main cables are Monster's, Instrument and speaker. I bought a few Reverb braided dirt cheap and have them on hand for emergency (or the guitar player forgot his again! LOL). Their video and low price tempted me to buy and I did. Tried one and sounds great.

I dont use them, but they were on the top of the capacitance list. Canare star quad, which i use for mics, was interestingly towards the end of the list. I dont know how much that really matter at line level. The type of cable really doesnt matter as long as you have a buffer. There is a video of a buffer with a bunch of cables, high end down to an extension cable, and they all sounded identical with the buffer. I'd rather spend $50 on a buffer than $50 on a fancy cable.

Most brands are pretty decent but I will never ever buy Monster cables! It's the only cable brand that ever failed on me and that includes speaker cables. I still use 25 year old cables from other brands.

Awesome response guys! Thanks for the input. Looks like just about any cables, either handmade or bought, is a decent cable as long as you don't go for the cheap ones. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'd like to stay around $30-$50 but may be willing to splurge if a good one that lasts longer than most pops up. Seems like I have a lot of good options.

BTW, I am a regularly gigging musician, playing at 3 churches and in 2 bands, one being a touring band, so I need good, reliable accessories, including cables.

Monster classic series have been good for me. Good sound quality, relatively cheap, heavy duty connectors and they don't tangle easily. Lifetime warranty but they got rid of the in store exchange through GC so it's a bit of a pain in the butt now.

I've been a bit of a cable snob for a few years now. The most impressed I've ever been with a cable is Planet Waves(D'Addario). You get very close to the quality of a Mogami (my second favorite) at half the price! Also, D'Addario has legendary customer service. I used to work at a music store and I spoke with a few D'Addario reps over the course of my stay there. A lot of companies have reps who are... less than cool. Kind of snooty and condescending towards store employees who they don't think are important. One time a D'Addario rep gave us all a bunch of free string packs for our main instruments and even jammed with us after we closed! Everything that company makes is top quality and they are awesome people to boot.

I like the 2 Planet Waves cables that I've had for nearly a decade each because... I've had them for nearly a decade and they still work 100%.

My favorite cables are 20' long Seems to be a good length for me.

I don't buy the cheapest, they don't last. I just buy middle of the road cables and make sure I have a spare.

Just like the title says, what's your favorite cables and why do you like them so much? I was using Planet Waves with the little kill switch on it but I've had some of them die on me in the last year. I'm currently using an Elixer cable that's a good quality cable but is kind of stiff. So, I'm posting this thread to ask what others use for some insight on what's good these days. Thank you for your input.

Money is the issue with that. Sure, I could save up but I need one sooner than I could save for a complete wireless system.
