Your favorite instrument cables and why...

I got these Monster Rock cables for next to nothing when I worked in electronics retail in college. I've had them for about 13 years now and have never had a reason to replace them.

I have a handful of Planet Wave cables that I bought years ago. Lost only one as loaner and the balance is going strong.

Monster's cables might be good, but the company itself appears to be well-named.

Line 6 G10 wireless from my upright. One I made from some old Belden braided coax my Dad had 40 years ago. Switchcraft 280 ends on it, from the G10 to the amp.

Not really brand-name conscious, just so they're well-made, shielded, etc.

I had these patch cables custom-made as a safety. A couple of my basses are front jacked, so I use right-angle plugs on them. One of the guitar players in a band I'm in is a little bit hyper onstage (think - Tazmanian Devil on Red Bull... ) and often gets hung up in my cable. Now instead of getting jerked, I have this break-away safety.

I've got a couple cheapo 20' cables that have lasted 15 years with regular near-daily usage. I lose them sooner than I break them. I'm not sweating it.

Wish I had that kind of luck.

I have @ExaltBass making one for me. He's been doing it since the 70's and has some good prices for what he does. Y'all need to check him out!

I've had good luck with local store branded Road Hog cables. They're not too expensive and they're soft so they don't tangle up.

I also have a braided spectraflex that I've had for who knows how long. I saw they still sell online - I might have to get another.

Thanks for posts on the Lava cables - I wasn't aware of that company and the products look great.

They are just cables, I use whatever.

What I use at the moment is one relatively expensive Planet Waves instrument cable going from the end of my signal chain into my amp(s) and then and then one extremely cheap instrument cable going from my bass into my EHX Black Finger, which is the start of my signal path, called The Ssnake (Thomann's budget cables), which I like because the cable is relatively soft and got springs at the end of the jack plug instead of an extension of relatively hard plastic, like the Planet Wave cable has.

I hear no difference to be honest, and at a tenth of the price of what the Planet Waves cable costed me, the The Ssnake cables are what I will be buying in the future.

I am quite sure that the Planet Waves cable is more sturdy build, but not so much that I will actually break 10 The Ssnake cables in it's living time, and therefor much less cost effective.

I should have said I don't use them, because paying the extra makes no point for me. From Neutrik:

Ha! No TRS, no problem. That's why I started using a switched plug in the first place, so it was less hassle unplugging to save the battery when I put the bass down.
