I've loved all the Lakland 5 necks I've played.

I also have a couple of Stambaugh 6s- fretted & fretless. The only thing really common are the neck dimensions: 2 1/8" nuts, 3/4" spacing at the bridge, as thin(front-to-back)as possible, & I forget the radius. VERY playable 6s. If you learn anything from me, let it be that you really ought to buy a Stambaugh today.

Agreed, very slim neck for a J bass. Very playable.

For me there is nothing better than an Ibanez SR4 neck. I've always loved those narrow/thin necks at 1 7/16 wide at the nut, and 7/8" thick at the 1st fret. By far the most comfortable, and easy to play necks IMO.

best neck I've owned on a 4-string...Yamaha RBX-170 ,,,fit my hand like a GLOVE

nicest feeling 5-string I've played...Yamaha RBX-375...again fit my hand like a glove...

right now...I'm really diggin' my P-bass neck (very similar to an All parts neck)...my Carvin AC40 neck is fast, but it's a little TOO tiny...

my Squier Deluxe Active V neck is HUGE but it's actually quite comfy, too...after you grow into it that is (takes about a MONTH )

Best neck I've played= Dingwall Afterburner or Z, but there was simply too much of it, LOL.

Current favorite=Roscoe Beck V. Wide. Asymmetric. Fairly thin front to back.

My favourite neck would have to be the one on my Spector. It's a chunky bit of wood, but it's expertly carved and woderfully smooth and fast. A joy to play!

The neck on my Electra is a P neck done right Perfect width, thickness and fretboard radius. It plays itself!!

My Pavel Jazz Pro 5 Deluxe neck is incredible! Birdseye! The action is fast! Incredibly comfortable!

I like the necks kind of thick like warwick's myself. My hand doesn't have to close as much from it's natural relaxed state to fret the finger board.

I have an ovangkol neck Corvette, and although it is nothing like my 55-02 or Kingston, it is super comfortable and easy to play.

4-string: Lakland Bob Glaub. I was always afraid of thick necks so I stayed away of it. I tried to stick to J-necks and they were okay but something was missing, Lakland DJ4 being the best of the bunch. Then came Glaub. 44mm@nut is the thickest I've ever played but for whatever reason it plays like a J without the cramps.

5-string: Toss between Lakland Darryl Jones and Sadowsky 24-5. I prefer DJ5's neck to 55-XX and 24-5's to Sadowsky JJ5.

I used to swear only by J necks, but over the years, I found out they made my left palm ache after an hour of playing, so now I use P necks. Even though I don't use a baseball bat grip approach, I still needed more meat under the thumb, I guess

I like block inlays, though on my Pavel Jazz Pro 5, I have pearl dot inlays.
