Your favourite flatwounds + p pickup combo?

If I wanted massive low end thumpin', I'd go for a J style bass with LaBella DTFs.
I can count myself lucky to own both a J style bass and a set of LaBella DTFs.

My P Bass has an Aguilar P something 60 Pickup installed and is strung with Chromes.
IMO the Chromes are quite bright for flats, while the P bass is not the brightest bass, which
compliments each other well. There is enough upper content to retain a bit of presence and
clear articulation should you desire that.

PS didn’t really answer the OP question! :laugh:

I’m mainly a rounds player, usually light gauge round core nickels. So I came to chromes (super light gauge) looking for the “flats experience” in an easy-playing string.

The Duncan sounds more even and clear than my old Squier pickup.

Haven’t tried many combinations, but I feel these two sound really good together and I’m happy :)

What didn't you like about them exactly? I just put them back on my Am.Std Pbass with PV63 pickup, after having DR Legend on for a while, and trying to decide which set I like more. I think the DR Legend have a thicker, juicier sound; the Dunlops sound less full. One the other hand, I think they are more even sounding across the strings. The G string of the DR Legend sounds somewhat thin and trebly compared to the other three strings of the set. Both sets 45-105. I'd like to try the Markbass flats at some point. Looking for the thickest tone possible as this is a reggae dedicated Pbass.

Ah, that's what I'm looking for! As I'm a 45-105 person, then it would be DTF 760FS - correct? For a standard Fender Pbass (strung through the bridge), is it the long or medium scale set? Lastly, I think I've read somewhere that the DTFs are quite bright when new. Is it really so?

The Dunlops are very trebly and characterised by a very high stiffness which I don’t like .. I tried them because there are a lot of users praising them but, for what I look in flatwound strings, that was a bad investment .. quite disappointed overall.
I’d like to try the Sadowsky flats in the future and the Optima RB, just for the sake of curiosity.
If you like a deep bass tone you can find much better than the Dunlops .. remaining in the same gauge try the Pyramid Gold 45-105

They're good for what they are, namely all-round flats. I can get some fat tones out of them (they need time to mellow out) and tension is on the low side compared to more traditional flats.
