My first bass was a Yamaha POS that I got for Christmas about 10 years ago. I now play a Fender Jaguar that I bought when I got my first pay check from a new job about 3 years back. Can't say I can complain. It sounds brilliant.

A Crown, burgundy, Jaguarish-looking, 14th B-day present in '65. Now playing primarily a Stingray H 4 (3-band).
mine hasnt changed much.... i still play basses that i got for under 200
my 1st was a peavey milestone 3 (and whenever i played that bass people would always say how my real 2nd name rhimed with peavey)
now i play a squier jazz bass that i found for 80 that i love to bits
both made from the same wood and both have verry simalar designs but sound verry diffrent

my first bass was a ibanez that came in the starter pack, now i play a nash, i sold the ibenez last week and i was a lil sad to see her go but i hadent played her in months
my first bass was a third-hand Profile P-bass copy; black/tort/maple with a weak-assed pickup which I bought off a friend in High School. Oddly enough, the neck was super nice to play, for a cheap bass, but, in time developed a double warp. I've still got the bass, albeit with a replaced eBay Special pickup and a Yamaha RBX Fretless neck on it (middle of pic).
Now I play a Fender Aerodyne Jazz. Not sure if my first bass really influenced that, in fact it probably didn't... the first bass I really fell in love with was a Fender Jazz Deluxe played by someone in a prominent local band well before I started playing myself.

Iirc my first bass was an '80's Hondo II Explorer--basically a P-bass in a bolt-neck Explorer body.
My current basses are:
Squier P-bass ('80's MIJ)
Fender Jazz ('90's MIM)
Epi T-bird ('00's MIK)
Peavey Fury I ('84-'86 USA)
Peavey T-40 ('78-'79 USA)

My first bass was a no name Japanese guitar with a 3/4 scale neck I bought for $35 and a tab of acid. That lasted about three months. I went out and bought a new Fender Telecaster Bass that same year in 1968. Although I sold that guitar, I replaced it with another one in '72 or so. I still have that one.

I didn't like it first and changed it for a MusicMan Stingray 4 with maple fb. And well, I happened not to like that Stringray after a while... it had a metalic sound to it that made me change it for a Human Base X.oc4. This is now my 4 string of choice.
I always had the need of a 5-string and I used to have a Sandberg California JM5 with rosewood fb. I was not comfortable with that bass and used it only for those songs where I really needed the 5 lower notes. But now I changed it for an Fender American Standard Jazz V with maple fb. This is now my main bass that I'm using for everything.

The only other bass I would consider getting is Music Man low end, which I believe is a Stingray, ONLY if they started making short scales. I like the blue one and would be willling to save up for it. I emailed Ernie Ball and asked them if they had short scale plans.

My first bass was a squier Pbass and i played it for a year before my dad bought me a yamaha BB605, my first real bass, first 5er, first active bass... lots of new ground covered on that bass, since I have bought and made headless basses, I own a HW1 Jazz and an ibanez btb 6string as well as a few acoutsic basses etc but the yamaha (albeit with extensive mods) is still my no1 bass, can't shake it for it's amazing neck and huge fat tone (extra pups help there tho

My first bass was white Peavey Foundation. It was my cousin's first bass. Then I got a GTX 5 string. I now play a SR5 and a MM 4. I wish I still had my first bass but I honestly think it wouldn't get alot of playing time.
The first bass I played was owned by my school, no idea what it was but it was a 3/4 length and felt gigantic (I was 9). First bass I actually owned was a Yamaha ERB300II that my mum bought me when I started high school because I had to give the other bass back to the school.
These days I play an '93 Ibanez SR885 which is ironically 6 years older than first bass I played.

Whoa. That's the goofiest looking bass I've evern seen.
First bass (1979) was a $175 plywood, short scale 2 pickup affair. Eventually defretted in one of many experiments in abuse. I still have the body and neck, but have lost the hardware and pups.
First good bass (1986) was a Rickenbacker 4000 FG, still have that bass, and have bought two more Ricks, and am hoping to add another in March.
I'm also toying with building/modding a cheap J bass to resemble Jaco's, but as a 5 string.

my first bass (an applause GTX black and maple Precison copy) is sitting three feet away from me. It's not something I play much. it's had some unfortunate mods done to it. if it were still in the condition I first purchased in, I would've donated it to some kids long ago.
no comparison to the Spector Euro I play nowadays.

First bass-mother of particleboard Kalamazoo EBO copy made in USA. Still have it-the mud machine! Sold it for $35 in 1972, bought it back the next year for $50.
Just taking delivery of a Carvin SB5000 tomorrow. This joins way too many other basses. I don't really play on the Kalamazoo anymore, but it's a cool piece of my history so she's staying here
