Your first bass vs. what you play now

I think I sort of got used to that first Precision and ever since, it's been what a bass is supposed to feel like to me. Admittedly, I find offset-waist basses more comfortable now but the Precision still feels "right". So really, which one I play during a show (Jag vs. Dirnt) depends on what neck I'd prefer.

The G&L Tribute is my first bass. The Carvin is what I primarily play now, but I play them both.

First one was a s/h shaftesbury EB3 copy cost 19 pounds, saved up my paper round money. It came with an eagle 50w tranny head and a 1x20" bass cab, result farrrrrrrrt fa fa farrrt. Then a Aria proII, Then JayDee custom. and thats the way it has stayed for 25years.

first one was a '66 mustang, red w/ white racing stripe, i got in '72 ($250 used at sam ash nyc)...
next up was a '65 P-bass, like new with all the tags and booklet, sunburst, in '75 ($250 used)...
these mighty aces set the stage for the next 40 years' journey (40 as of next year).

from there, it's been a long strange beautiful trip into Alembics, Hondos, Foderas, custom weirdos, Arias, Carl Thompsons, Alleva-Coppolos, Brices, with surely more to come.

For me it was a '79 Ricky 4001 and it is still my main bass now. (I have put new Ricky electronics in as it had dead Semour Duncan circuits when I got it). So versitile! And I love the growl! I have since gotten an acoustic Cort (I quite like it) and a '76 P. An EUB has since ben added. I like them all but can't top the Ricky!

My first bass was a Univox SS with flats now I play Fender/Warmoth Fivers. I have recently been playing a 4 string MIM pbass and Im thinking about going back to 4 string basses.

Charvel 2B - First year edition for that puppy and still have it. Now playing a Shecter 5 string, out of necessity. Have a G&L L2000 sitting in the corner looking lonely.

My first ever: a used black Ibanez GSR200 back in 2004/5.

I worked my way up (in order) to an Ibanez Ergodyne 600. Loved it. From here on out only 5 strings: Ibanez Prestige SR1005 and BTB1205 models, my first two basses I purchased new.

Then came the Tobiases: Tobias Kiiller B, Basic followed by the Classic, each time selling one to get the other. When it comes to my Tobias basses, in retrospect, the Classic was the nicest looking of these, but the mahogany Killer B was the one that to me felt and sounded the best.

In between I also had a Cort fretless and a nice nice custom fretless by Dave Pushic. As much as I liked these - especially the DP - I didn't and don't play fretless that much so they had to be sold to finance future purchases....

....currently, I own three sweet as sweet can be Roscoe 5 strings, all different wood, body and electronic options. No plan on getting rid or "upgrading" these. I also stuck to my roots and added an Ibanez RB850 to keep in my stable alongside the Roscoes.

ALWAYS have an interest in adding "another" Roscoe, going back to Tobias in the form of a 6 string Killer B, and perhaps even a Wyn bass. It's called GAS. I have it bad.

My first bass a black standard p bass. Currently playing a conklin gt7. I think fenders look great. My eyes like them but my hands don't

My first was a mid-70's cream Fender Musicmaster. Sold it after I bought a Rick. In hindsight it was definitely a mistake, why keep that crappy thing when I had a 4001 right? After all sixteen year olds do know everything.

Now I'm playing extensively modded P basses, a Carvin LB75 strung EADGC and a Shen upright.

Started with a '76 Precision bought from new. Then after 6 other basses ended up with a '64 Precision.

There's a moral here somewhere.

First bass was a Squier P bass special and now I mostly play a Mustang pawn shop.

My first bass was a Peavey Grind that I bought from the Peavey warehouse manager out of the back door for $100 bucks. It was used as a prop in an Ashley Judd movie and it had a 35" scale and very floppy action........it taught me how to play so when I bought some good basses I felt like I hit a home run.

I'm glad I didn't start on a great bass because I would have been ruined from the start!

My 1st bass was a Global P-bass form the Sears Catalog. A gift from my Grandparents. I took it apart and found it was a plywood body and a baseball bat sized neck. The bas made it so I could only go up in quality from there. When I play my basses now, I am thankful I learned on that, so I know what NOT to play. lol

My 1st bass is an ibenez sr300dx. Now it's been modified with new paint, new electronics, and some other goodies. I still use it ad my main bass. I also have a discontinued ibanez sra500. Other than that I have a cheep dean that I defreted (properly). Still working on playing the fretless. In the future I want a German made Warwick corvette. After that and an electric upright bass and the colection is compleat, but will likely expand as well. I just can't help it. Lol.

First bass ('74) was a Fender Telecaster. Shouldn't have sold that one, huh?
And now, I've moved all the way over to ... a Fender P, Tony Franklin sig model, fretted & fretless versions. For me, I can't help gravitating back to Fenders (even when the label says "Lakland" or something else).
