Your first three basses...

I only remember my first bass as I've had so many. It was a Yamaha RBX765A. It was basically a rent-to-own from a place in Minneapolis. I didn't have a lot of money back then and had to get a bass pronto for a band I dropped guitar for. That was essentially my introduction to the bass world.

First was a Vantage PJ found in a pawn shop - still have it but don't play it ever
Second was a Fender 50th Anniversary Jazz V from 1996 - still have it but don't play it too often
Third was a MIM Fender Fretless Jazz - sold it a year or so ago after having lent it to a friend for about 10 years. Kinda wish I had the fretless now though.

Sparked by the older thread about GAS purchases you have longed for but never realized, what about the first three basses you did buy.

Here are mine;

1. A late 70's Gibson Grabber purchased in the early 80's

2. A Peavey T-40 purchased in 1986

3. A late 70's Gibson Ripper purchased in the late 80's

I still have all three plus several other various brands. I am firmly holding my GAS at bay until I see the next MUST HAVE unit.

Thump on,

1. Mid-60's Mosrite Celebrity hollow body bass purchased from my music teacher in 1974.
2. 1974 Gibson Grabber (all maple) purchased new in 1975.
3. 2004 Fender Deluxe jazz bass purchased new in 2004.

So that's 3 basses in 6 months. How long can you keep that up for? ;)
I'm pretty sure I'm done. I've been looking for a few months now and nothing sparks my fancy... Well, there is that 60th Anniversary Jazzmaster... But I'm working on playing rather than buying these days. So I just "look" for deals, but I never see anything that moves me. I think the GAS has gone out for now. I'm sure it will be back sooner or later.

1. '63 jazz, mom bought it and a mid 60's bassman amp for me for $300 in 1968. I wound up breaking the headstock off in a "new strap" accident.
2.1972 precision fretless I bought new. stolen a couple of years later.
3. 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 maple glo that I also bought new.

1. No name Fender Jazz copy. Looked great - black with maple fretboard.
Stolen
2. Purple Charvel 4-string. I don’t remember the model....but heavy as hell.
Traded in on a...
3. Ibanez SDGR 1000 (red). It was late 80’s I think...when they first came out with the sound gear line.
Sold it.

First 3 hmmm
83 fender jazz USA still have it and it is still the one of the best sounding basses I have.
Charvel fusion IV MIJ in mint green. Still own it and love the first generation with all Jackson USA hardware.
And finally a Yamaha fretless. Long gone, was yelled by the music teacher so many times for being out of tune I have stayed away from fretless until recently. Bought it for 1 thing. Just so I could do 800 million harmonic slides per song. Oh the younger me!!

1 - Epiphone Les Paul, 1990's
2 - Ibanez 5-string, don't remember the model number, probably early 2000's.
3 - B.C Rich Mockingbird (Import, "NJ Classic Series), mid 2000's?

I now have 7, not including #1 (sold) & #2 (Um, had a temper outburst & had to break something). I don't miss them, aside from nostalgic reasons.

In 1970 my first was a beginner's model p.o.s. by Kingston. It looked like a deformed Jaguar. Next was a no-name tele copy--fair. In 1974 I got an Arbor Stiletto headless bass. It was the same cherry color as an EB 0 which was what I really wanted but couldn't afford. This was a decent bass.
