My current favorite is the La Bella 760FL's...I've also enjoyed playing the 760FS set as well. Both these sets have the tone and feel that I love. I just put a set of the FL's on my new Breedlove Medium scale acoustic bass with great results and I will be using a set of the 760FL's on my new Medium Scale "P" being built by Pat Wilkins as well.

These are now on my Stingray and they sound and feel fantastic.

Still using 45-105 on my P bass and Yamaha. The Ray just seems better suited for a lighter string.

I've taken a break on my string quest so the Beams are going to do it at least for now.

Switched last year to DR Black Beauties and love them. Nice and punchy and you can't kill them.

Ernie ball hybrid slinky nickel rounds for quite a long time now. I like the Dunlop super brights but I'm not sure if I like them better.. I need to spend more time with them to say that.

Elixir coated strings on most basses.
Chromes on one and unknown brand of tapewounds on one.

I never thought that flats would ever be the right choice for my style of playing until I tried Ernie Ball slinky cobalt flats. Such crisp mids. I'll probably never go back.

My favorite string as well lately.. strung up on my Yamaha Bb3000s and might start add to my Fender RW jazz next.. I go for the light gage

Interesting post. Please elaborate on your choices.
The reason I ask is because I tend to think of P's as fuller and J's as more growly with an edge. So I would have guessed Chromes on the P and LaBellas on the J to help each make each a more balanced sound. But maybe that was not your goal. Or are you just thinking of the whole thing a different way than I am?
It's always interesting to hear a different approach.

I'm sure this topic has been discussed a million times over but here goes one more. I've been a loyal Ernie ball super slinky player for the last 16 years. And for some reason I'm finding myself very gun shy on decided on trying something new. I love the tone I get out of the slinky's, but I wonder if there's something out there just just sounds better. As vague as that is, what's your go to strings and why?

I hear you. I used D' Addario medium nickel wound rounds form the early to mid 80's ith until 2013. I was introduced to Cleartone medium round wound and liked the sound over all.I used them and tried Cleartone Heavy's and wow man I found them to fill all my needs. I can't tell they have a coating or that anything is different from non coated string brands. I play with 2 sometimes 3 fingers and as long as I wipe the strings down with warm water one in a while the seem go keep on going like the energizer bunny.

OK Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats on my P-Bass GHS Balanced Nickel on my Jazz , Thunderbird Vintage Pro and my Ibanez SRMS 805 and GHS Pressure wound strings on my Ibanez ATK And Ibanez BTB-845 SC.

Labella 760FS flatwounds & SIT RB nickel roundwound. SIT's are bright, grindy & have a wonderful feel to them. They replaced the Dunlop Super Brights for me.

For many many years I used Bass Centre Elites SS rounds and loved them. Then at a chum’s recommendation I tried Picatos and used them on all my basses for the next 5 or 6 years. However another friend dared me to try flatsans so for the last 3 and a half years I had La Bella flats on both my Wals. They are now by far my preferred string! 760 FL if I recall correctly.

After a few years of playing TI jazz rounds exclusively I’m incapable of playing anything else. I like everything about them.

me too! (except that old comfy feeling of roto 66's light guage...i still use them sometimes!) but the TI jazz rounds are the bomb!

All my Fenders but 2 have chromes. My Sage 5 has Fodera lights, everything else has GHS Pressurewounds.
