I tend to prefer to see natural wood exposed on my basses rather than solid colours. Let mother nature be seen. These natural wood finish ones are quite nice.
Thanks, Mike. Great to hear from you! How are things?Very nice, Bill.![]()

For me, it wasn't about the colour. I like Montezuma Brown better than Jetglo or Fireglo. The 4003 with it's large bridge pup cover and overall shape was a big departure from the Fender basses I previously owned. I did a fill-in gig way back when. The guy I was standing in for had a 4001 and the big Vox bass amp on a dolly. Up to then I'd only played a Fender Precision and I didn't like the Ric. Fast forward 30 years and my feelings flipped completely; that's when I got the 4003.Wow! I can't see how ANYBODY would think the Montezuma Brown Rics were "ugly ducklings"!I had one for awhile but sold it (like the Fireburst one I had before that).
While the name of the color conjures up negative images, I thought the Montezuma Brown 4003 was one of the most beautiful basses I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot of basses over the years. I've just never been able to cozy up to Rics from a comfort standpoint. Always preferred my Fenders (and Fender-like) basses. But sometimes I wish I'd kept that M.B. Ric if for no other reason than to LOOK at it!!

And this is why there needs to be a stronger than plain "like" option.
Thanks, pal! And that certainly cuts both ways, my friend. And this is why there needs to be a stronger than plain "like" option.
I think Ric 4001's and 4003's are some of the most stunningly beautiful basses ever made. I really wanted to love them. Tried them twice. First was a Fireglo. It just never felt as good to me as my Fenders. Sold it.For me, it wasn't about the colour. I like Montezuma Brown better than Jetglo or Fireglo.
