Your take on being alone?

Before I got married, I lived by myself for almost 10 years, and I loved it. Now this is coming from having three brothers and one sister, and I didn't even have my own bedroom until I was a senior in college. I still enjoy my alone time, but I love having a wife and kid now.

I love my family, but I'm pretty much a loner at heart. I value my time alone. My wife even gets on me about it sometimes. She'll say things like, "You'd be perfectly fine if you were on your own, wouldn't you?" Of course I tell her, "No, baby; I'd be devastated if I didn't have you!"

But in all seriousness, I find that being alone is addictive.

I am 28, live alone, have done so for the past 5 years. Haven't been in a meaningful relationship in that time either.
I do not feel the need to have "another half" as i am a very independent person and find i hard to live/deal with someone else. I actually enjoy coming back to an empty home after a late night gig, knowing i will be able to enjoy peace and quiet, shower and watch V without having to worry about waking someone up, or talk to someone!

I do socialize, training partners at the gym, band mates, pub, and have a lot of friends i have known for 15 years or more, but i do not have an urge to be around people all the time like some people do.

I am perfectly happy spending time on my own. And i never feel lonely.

I have actually already wondered if i could go a week without talking or seeing anyone!
Just as an experiment...

I've always been a little bit of a loner so I may have been a little more comfortable with it than others but given the choice of 'alone" vs not, I'd rather not.
but now..? Shoot, when the wife takes the kids to visit relatives or something, I'm in a state of BLISS.
***BLISS***
for a little while. :)

As an only child and an introvert, I really like my alone time and prefer alone time. But enjoy the company of others as well.

These.. although I do have 3 sisters.. I didnt meet them till I was 21.. I was raised as an only child.. I play very well with myslef ...

I recently got out of my most serious relationship which was a year and a half and I don’t like being alone. Before I dated her I really didn’t like it but was use to it, now I was so use to having another person, a partner and frankly a really close friend. Not having that intimate connection with another is not something I enjoy. So for now I am alone and trying not to just date someone just because I want to fill that hole.

I've been alone since my divorce in '93. I was 40 back then and I'm now 59. After my divorce I stayed alone for three years before I tried venturing out into the dating world again. Not much, just a bit here and there and nothing ever went past that. For a great number of reasons that would take too long to explain I came to discover that I didn't want to try starting all over again. My heart just wasn't into it and to this day it still isn't.

I too am pretty much a loner anyway and find that I really don't get "lonely" in the classic sense of the word. While my situation isn't perfect or eutopia I've found there's a lot worse things to go thru in life than being alone. A lot worse.

I was just wondering how you felt about being alone.

Do you find it to be a state of solitude or loneliness? Or in other words, is it positive or negative to you?

I'd like to get individual perspectives on this, I think it could lead to interesting discussions.

Like without a romantic partner, without friends or family or physically isolated from other people for any period of time?

So far I've been find without a partner. Here and there I think "It'd be nice." but it hasn't really been something I've pursued. Without my friends and my family I'm sure like I'd start feeling like crap after a while but, that said, I spend a lot of time on my own and I tend to like it that way.

And here I was thinking you were pulling some seriously bad ******* on the reg :D

I don't think i've had a single weekend when i was not hanging out with friends or family. That's what hunting season is for, you wake up with people, start hiking and bam, you are alone for a while... then you get back into camp and hang out.

Humans are social animals, I don't think we were meant to be alone.

I think you spend too much time here JMatt, why don't you go out somewhere and enjoy yourself. Hey wait, what am I doing here?:hiding::p

Lol! Man, you know it. I just happen to be a college kid who needs to be on his computer a lot to get school work done. I can't help it that I almost always have at least one tab open for Talkbass ;)
