Your thoughts on heavy metal

Because that's EVERY SINGLE metal band right?
Metal is a culture. I have mad respect for some of the metal players out there.
Everything from alternate timings to complex rythem patterns, classical music inspired guitar riffs, tone and song structure, love it all.
It can be hard and fast, or slow and melodic, but remain heavy. Some metal speaks to me the most out of all music I listen too. YMMV

I'm ready for the return of dragons and wizards. I'm done with black eye liner, silly gore imagery, tough-guy silliness, I'm such a hardass lyrics, aND related distractions.
Music wise, there is enough prowess spread about to be entertaing. Enough unexpected changes to be enthralling.

Generally I think if you set out to make good music and it just so happens to turn out "metal" than it's good art. But a lot of times I think what happens is that people try too hard to make something really metal and it doesn't turn out so good.
Black Sabbath, for example, just wanted to make heavy, creepy, groovy rock and roll; they didn't know it would later be labeled "metal" and they were charting a new course. As a result a lot of their early stuff was inventive and thoughtful and still holds up to this day. The musicianship was sharp and Geezer's far out lyrics were like nothing before it. A lot of their stuff wouldn't even be called "metal" today, such as Sabbra Cadabra. They were trying to make good music, not metal.
Since then countless bands have tried to follow the metal template and failed, in my opinion, because they are trying too hard. The good ones just want to make good music and happens to come out heavy.
Things don't need to be difficult to deserve respect.
Some "heavy metal" is difficult, some not.

The sad thing is that it came back as Heaven and Hell, and then Ronnie Dio died....then it came back again as Last in Line until yesterday, when Jimmy Bain died.
Time for some younger dragon and wizard metal. Minus the spandex, please. Pointy headstocks optional.
I don't understand why you would disrespect a genre because it isn't your cup of tea.
The same could be said of anyone who paints an entire genre based on the work of a handful of bands.

Metallica, megadeth, blind guardian, and tons of others are all pretty amazing.

I admit I've secretly always wanted a BC Rich bass like your guitar. Symptom of being an 80s child.
Wizards and dragons never left doom.
I love Geezer Butler's tone and style. He opened my mind as to what a bass guitar could do. And I adored Steve Harris when I was a teenager learning to play. I always loved the way Iron Maiden's albums were mixed so you could hear his playing!
Metal's not my personal bag, but mad respect to its devotees and practitioners.
