We did a gig at a bar in Sussex NB (that no longer exists), and the owner introduced us as "Soon to be recording artists" :)
I've also seen the "International recording star", but it was a guy, and before he became one. Granted, he didn't want to do "Summertime" or other song of that ilk, but he did do a lot of Randy Travis songs. :)

If your lead singer is wearing a button up shirt that is stretched so tight you can see portions of his enormous gut between each button, you aren't "on tour".

However, if the same thing happens when that button up shirt is stretched over your female lead singer’s heart-stopping bustline, then you very well may be “on tour.” (Oooooh yeah!) :woot:;)

If that is the case...
You are NOT ON TOUR.

Where I live has been a Central European crossroads since the days of the Roman Empire, so "within a four- hour car drive of your hometown" can be not just a tour, but an international tour including more than half a dozen countries- Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia. It's a backwater place but an ideal place for a band with international appeal.

Maaaaaaaan, I love this. There was another cover band that lives in my area. They would always post on social media promoting their "tour dates" which was about 4 gigs a month at bars less than 25 miles from their houses. I couldn't tell you how much this bugged me. We average 12 gigs a month and sometimes are out of town all weekend and still NEVER say we are on tour. If you're not packing a suitcase and saying a hard goodbye to your friends and family, it's NOT tour.

If the bartender turns the jukebox, stereo, or radio on as soon as you start your break or finish for the night, you are on on tour.
When I produce concerts, I have a strict policy of half hour silence on the house system before and after the show. Many musicians have thanked me for this, especially because I produce mostly oddball "under the underground" shows and of course some dude doing microtonal multiphonics on a sax or some such thing doesn't want doontz-doontz disco blasting the mometnt he stops his thing.

As far as I'm concerned, if it's not properly funded by some kind of management company, it's NOT a tour. It's just another out of town gig -- or rather "gig tourism". Same with a bunch of indie hipsters in a van playing multi-city multi-band shows on a shoestring or parentally supplied budget. You're touring around with perhaps admirable guerilla devotion, but it's not the same thing as a "real" tour -- i.e. one that is properly funded by a management or record company. I think that the term "tour" started to get watered down with the advent of social media, gofundme, kickstarter, and everything else that went along with it. It's all good doing a "guerilla-style tour" but you run the risk of getting on the OP's hot list that way. :)
