You want to be internet famous?

Be overweight and put on a Tron costume.
Be overweight and make a video of you doing Jedi saber tricks.
Sing a song about chocolate rain.

But doing a Vlog? There's literally 10,000s of people posting useless junk everyday on Youtube, and I'm one of them. You'll need something so interesting or stupid that it goes viral, combined with the right group of geeks promoting it. But from some of the stupid things I've seen go viral, it almost seems like it's pretty random. Also people spend money to get ranked higher in YouTube searches, features, etc. so it's not an even playing ground.

But try it, you have nothing to lose. Except possibly pride and dignity.

As far as your question about YouTube, I think it would be best to find the answer on YouTube than TB.

Really? I have 1058 subscribers to my channel and, while that obviously means there's a certain amount of people worldwide that likes what I do, I don't think I'm a YT celebrity.

But from what I hear at that point you can apply with youtube to begin receiving checks for producing your videos. The term "celeb" I threw out a little too openly, apparently. Especially since to me any band that even manages to scrape the bottom of a barrel and tour consistently under a label also classifies as "celeb", although in an underground context.

As for the pointlessness of vlogging? Subject matter matters. Look at the people that put something up that's vastly offensive. They manage to get a few hundred extra views.

blogging i don't get, I don't want to listen to some ones life story and i doubt they'd want to listen to mine!

You have to bare in mind though. that youtube doesn't pay the bills and it wont put food on the table! So have fun with it, But dont Expect the right to be famous.

I have a youtube channel but its more of a pass time. It started out when i was looking for a band. Was Just a few vids to show i was able to play bass fluently. If only i asked for people interested to send me videos of them as well, i would have saved a lot of wasted time :lol:

Now its kind of a hobby/pass time just for fun.

Its also worth noting that your a bassist. The harsh reality is we dont interest many other people than other bassists unless you can sing as well! most of the people i know and have talked to dont know the difference between a bass and guitar!

Either way, Give it a go? as said, it is fun and its good to hear criticism! just be realistic with it. Theres millions of people on there all wanting the same thing!

Oh, and the only person I know to have gotten anything out of youtube is my drummer. Him and another friend do a comedy blog, they kept at it, kept it regular and they have now been working with a production company, they've gotten roles in another short film that's coming soon and it looks like they'll be getting funded for their own flick too.

* You own or have express permission to use and monetize all audio and video content that you upload—no exceptions.
* You regularly upload videos that are viewed by thousands of YouTube users, or you publish popular or commercially successful videos in other ways (such as DVDs sold online).

No, we can only accept partners who hold global rights to their music videos.

Since most of my videos include an audio track created an owned by others, I don't qualify for that partnership program, as far as I understand.

understandable. I was thinking aside from playing along to tracks, I'd take some of the material I cooked up in FL studio back in my more active days and use that for intros/soundtracks/outros/whatever. I'm getting to the point where I'm pretty good at finding out what I want something to sound like and producing it.

That and the tunes I make are so mechanical and maniacal sounding that they may get exposure on the outside if they are discovered at first by youtube.

I know a guy who makes intro tracks for a guy who does a vlog (Ask Swifty).

And for all who still argue vlogging, look up "fred"
