In the spirit of the $500 dollar thread, but this one, with moderately stricter rules:

No 'saving it to get more money' later. No down payment on a pricier bass. No giving it away or paying down your credit card or down payment for a kidney or sending your kid(s) through college, etc...

You get one bass, and accessories (new or used, don't matter). Whatever change that's left has to be spent on bass-related stuff. So amps, strings, de-tuners, upgrades, etc... is ok. Warmoth and the like are ok too.

If there is more than one version of this $1000 USD bass you can think of, feel free to share as well.

Basically, one can get a pretty decent bass for $1000 (USD, so us Canadians and Aussies, that's roughly 1340 CND/AUD, the British, I think about 850£).

Okay, for mine, I'd either get a Hammersmith K bass long scale with the one pup in seafoam green with a tortie guard. That should just about do it. If any change left over, I'd get an alternative pickguard, and a case of GHS flats. Lefty of course.

If not...

Warmoth Jazz bass body, rosewood bound neck with dot inlays, set of lollipop tuning machines, get some Guitar Fetish Jazz pups, decent bridge and fender string tree, and build my own '66 Jazz replica with my own logo, of course. I think I'd go fiesta red with tortie guard. And a case of GHS flats.

With $1000 bucks I'd buy a used Fender american standard jazz bass or an EB Musicman Stingray bass (used) and a couple of beers at the 55 bar on david binney's gig tonight or mike stern's gig tomorrow. Having said that, I'll spend all my money on drinks and enjoy my basses on my gigs next weekend!

Easy, because i already did *just that* - I bought not one but *two* Carvin 5 strings this week, here on TB, for under $1K - I'll test drive them, check them out and keep the one I dig, sell the one I dig less - - unless I fail to dig either, in which case I'll sell them both. If you're curious, they are a Vanquish and a SB5001 - Neither were more than $1000. So... uh... I win. ??
