You've got $1000 USD and one hour (or two)...

For a bass I would get a Shortbass from Scott Beckwith of Birdsong Guitars. The Shortbass is his little side project, less options and customization, but a nice hand built bass for $1000. Or perhaps an electric standup if one could be had for that price.

If I could spend it only on bass related purchases I would prefer a nice Barefaced cabinet and an amp head. Probably a One10 and a Markbass.

Price:
$1,000.99
I would, of course, talk them down on the .99 and the tax.

"Hey man, I got $1,000 right here. CASH. Take care of me or don't."

Two words: Killer Mutt. That's because $1000's not enough for an Ampeg AUB (one of Bruce Johnson's versions). I don't trust the Eastwood copy because it looks cheesy. ( I never played one, they could be great.) The Modern Player Tele with the twin humbuckers looks like a cool bass, but again, the workmanship may be suspect. Maybe a guild B-302 or a Westone Rail bass, both good choices.
