Yussef Dayes featuring Rocco Palladino

I am clearly late to the party on Yussef Dayes, but since seeing this post a few days ago I’ve listened to three of his albums. Holy crap.

Rocco Palladino has some super cool ideas. I really like what I’m hearing. There is something going on with his rhythmic timing though that might be deliberate and might not. I especially hear it on the live set called “Welcome to the Hills.” He’s a little disconnected from Dayes, sometimes ahead of Dayes’ beat and other times behind. Again, it might be deliberate.

He’s sporting what I would have considered all through my teens and 20s to be the worst conceivable bass tone. It’s fashionable now though and sure sounds good when he plays it.

Picked up the CD today at Amoeba in Berkeley - so nice to be able to think, I really want to get that album, go to a store, and find it!

I'm listening on Spotify right now but will listen to the CD in the car tomorrow - taking a friend to the airport so perfect opportunity. I like to know the songs when I go see someone live, so glad I have time to dig in before the Berkeley show!
