This is a good gig, but I am surprised that Rocco is not showing up more on my radar.
I viewed this several times yesterday. He is my favorite player right now. Rocco and JuliaPlaysGroove just have caught my attention like no other players in quite a long time . Since Esperanza Spalding hit the scene.
His use of effects , spat , and phrasing is very reminiscent of his father Pino . This has to be my favorite rhythm section since Chic!!! I thought Pino and QuestLove were dynamic duo, but Yussefs drumming and Roccos playing are anther level. The sax and keys are the carry on top!!!

Spat actually made sense to me, but I thought you were referring to the way he occasionally highlights the space by throwing in a short, percussive note - slightly ahead of the beat - causing a sort of musical lurch / kick in the pants, like a little jolt of adrenaline.
I was, however, wondering why you were putting curry on top.
I saw this or was it another video of him/them a few years back and was well damn the this apple did not fall to far from the tree. Has his own style and having a famous father is a tough thing to deal with but he obviously handling it damn well. I'd love to see these guys live in a small jazz club.
These are the exact type of venues they book. They are on tour right now. I hope to see them in December in my neck of the woods.

I've been all about the Euro jazz(?) lately! Yussef Dayes w/ Rocco Palladino is the top of my list! I love their grooves take on Stanley's Yesterday Princess.
Yussef Kamaal, Kamaal Williams, Jazz Bois, Athletic Progression, and Ezra Collective are a few other standouts from this scene.

I love that Pino named his kid Rocco. Try and stay out of the family business with that name.

I like this. He's a playful bassist but still grooves. I also really like Yusuf Dayes, he's done a lot of stuff that really intrigues me. Seems like he'd be a fun drummer to play with.

I think Rocco mostly plays with Dayes, so you may have missed him if you haven't had Dayes in your music rotation. Dayes and Rocco also played on Kali Uchis' song "Blue" which has a very Sade vibe.
I love how Rocco and Dayes have a very funky, soulful take on jazz. All monster players, but they never stray too far from serving the mood of the song.

The "What Kinda Music" album is great! Rocco isn't the only bass player on it. Tom Driessler serves Yussef really well too!
I like that Rocco has a unique sound and he’s a bit of an explorer that way. Nice groove going on there!
