Zon basses - is everything OK ?

You covered hopeful, so I'll cover cynical: my experience was that Zon was super quick to communicate before I gave them my deposit. :ninja:
I'm only a short time on the list, but I've got responses from Martin after I put in my deposit, and he said that a call with Joe can be set up to answer my questions regarding the build. The ball is in my court to respond to them with questions, phone number, and good time to call.

Yes, I have one I'm waiting for. And my point was that the company really needs a good customer service specialist, because of the fact that people are not happy to hear nothing.

I don't think we are disagreeing here...

Not at all. Zon should certainly have someone communicating while he & his staff build orders.
At the time M.Stevens had an Agent who handled orders; later on, he called/E-mailed me himself. I was never, ever concerned.
I hope you get your build.

At this point, I'd recommend all of the people here who have been waiting much longer than me turn up the heat on the requests for our basses, money back or whatever is needed.

Id hope that if they got a torrent of emails and calls from the good folks of Talkbass, they might feel a little fire under them to clear up communications and meet deadline

UPDATE: After a couple of terse emails to them late tonight, it just shipped. The bill was more than they said it would be just a couple weeks ago but at this point, I just wanted the transaction overwith

Did you get your bass back? How was the repair?

Well folks, good news bad news.
I just got it back this afternoon and it plays and sounds absolutely incredible. It feels better than when it sent it in and the fretwork is the best I've ever seen.

Bad news...right after pulling out out of the box I noticed the rebuilt neck has either a crack or a deep scratch. I've never heard of carbon fiber cracking like that so I'm really hoping it's just a scratch but either way, I'm very disappointed that after 6 months and $1.5k, it arrived like this.

That's not great news. That's a significant scratch for sure. I'm not even sure how you would repair such a scratch on carbon fiber. Is it in a place where it's going to be noticeable to your hand? If not, maybe I'd just live with it.... but that's a tough pill to swallow.

Agreed! Martin got back to me ASAP and told me they must have missed it but that he's 100% sure it's not structural. Their finish is very thick and pretty soft so I'm inclined to believe him.

It's not noticable when playing and not too much of an eye sore but last thing I want to worry about is the neck cracking after going through the whole process.

I'm going to attempt to not let my OCD get the better of me and just enjoy the music haha

Looks more like a scratch. I wouldn't be happy about it. Wouldn't send it back either though. If it bothers you they should foot the bill of reshipping to and from, fix it and offer warranty against defects in workmanship or catastrophic failure of the neck (outside of abuse).

I just asked them about a warranty and I didn't get a response to that one yet but hopefully they will get back to me. At this point, even if I did send it back, would it be another 6 months? Year?
Good news is that carbon fiber and composites should be much more resistant to cracks than wood.

The original finish had deep cracks in it that were superficial and an old Status I had was the same way.

Definite bummer. Could drop fill with CA and sand. Not sure how that would work out with a satin finish.

I loaned my old Sonus 5/1 to a friend for a few years; when I got it back there was a long, deep scratch along the back of the neck. I was thinking it might have been a crack, but when I sent it to Joe he told me it was a scratch in the finish as the finish is quite deep on the back of the neck. Joe fixed it up right fine for me.

Bummer. Hoping to be helpful: it looks like a finish scratch, and I'm pretty positive it will not crack at all from that mark.

Still, I know it's not what you wanted, and that sux.

I need update photos :)
Just took the advice here and filled the scratch with CA glue then used a little steel wool to stand it flat. Definitely not my finest sanding job (it's a mat finish anyway so who really cares) but the scratch is totally filled in and very hard to see.

So unless the fingerboard is fixing to unglue itself, it should be fine.

Sounds like a great resolution to me. Enjoy that beautiful bass!
