Zoom B1Xon Settings Thread...... OMG

I have the BX1 and liking it a lot, but I'm having a little trouble creating two patches I need:

a Palladino type of effect like on "come back and stay"
a synth '80 style ala Michael Jackson on "remember the time" or "shake your body"

Any suggestion?

thank you
I'll see what I can work up for you. Gimme a day or two.

On a side note, I'm adding a second B1 to my pedalboard.

I've already got the B1xon, and really dig it now that I've taken the time to get to know it and set it up to make the best use of it for myself.

I'm adding a B1on so I can run dual amp setups. I recently put together a little patch bay to enable me to run two separate signal chains and end with a mono signal. So I'm gonna experiment a bit and have some fun.

I love to see a Palladino patch. Ive got my B1on since a week and haven't changed any patches yet. I did make a shortlist of best and worst patches IMO so I now know what to keep and what to edit.

BTW did anyone try the 4voicesyn which adds preselected chords? There is no standard patch which uses it.

You're really serious about fxs! I did it back in the '80 (gasp!... I'm not that old... mmmrright!) but the technologies were just ok and I soon got tired of the crap, but now I'm back with a couple of projects where some of these effects are very welcome and this little bx is pretty awesome for a 50 bucks 'toy'!

I appreciate very much your offer, thank you!

I've always figured that anything worth doing is also worth overdoing-doing. Lol.

I've noticed a few limitations on the B1xon, mostly when using the Particle Reverb with any patch with more than one or two effects in it. It's not my only reason for the second b1, but it'll free up some memory so I can get a little crazier with effects when I'm goofing around at home.

My main reason is to separate my dirty and clean sounds into two separate signal paths. That way I can still run my "normal" clean tone and mix in the dirt as needed. Yes, I know that most of the dirt effects in the Zoom have a clean blend, but I'm all about options.

I gotta admit, the purchase of the second Zoom is mostly just to play around with signal routing and to create weird sounds in the privacy of my mancave. The band will probably never hear much more than "clean" & "dirty".

I also ordered a small 1590 sized distortion pedal, just for one more noisy option.

All of this because my band added "Ace of Spades" to our set list. Btw, if anyone comes up with a good Motörhead patch, please post it.

Not a bad idea.. maybe run 1 bx1on for the amp and overdrive sims into the front end and then use the 2nd bx1on pedal into your effects loop for the modulation effects.

No effects loops. All DI.

I have something similar, but a G1on instead of the B alongside my B1xon. Through using some simple splitter cables, I am able to have both on at once in parallel, feeding a single stereo output to headphones, my DAW I/O or my DBX Go box for live. I don't think people really understand how versatile these inexpensive boxes are, and the ability to use them in stereo/parallel is great. btw, I am using this rig on my piccolo bass, not my main bass..I don't use any efx on that. Makes for a nice contrast.

My rig has taken some time to get to where it is now.

I suffered some really nasty hearing damage a few years back, and it was the catalyst for me to switch to an ampless IEM rig.

I started with an iOS setup on my iPhone, which became frustrating so I started building a pedalboard.

It's been an adventure, but my current setup:

Bass--->dual A/B box:

Output A (Clean/Low)--->B1xon---->input of second A/B

Output B (Dirt/High)--->Donner Giant Metal (for a different flavor of drive occasionally)--->B1on--->input of second A/B

Then the output of the second channel of the A/B box (the two channels recombined) goes into a TC Spectracomp followed by an MXR Bass DI+, out via XLR to the mixer.

Whew!!

The b1on will be here Wednesday. The cabling will arrive sometime today.

Should be fun.

I'll probably switch the positions of the two Zoom units, and use the one with the expression pedal in the dirt chain. Then use the regular b1on as my "always on" chain.
I was just gonna say that..I use the pedal on the X for pitch shifting a lot, also for ambient things: echo feedback control, reverb depth.

I tried the 4voicesyn the yesterday. Not for me.... The chordsounds aren't very defined and won't add anything useful to my acoustic bass guitar. But I made a patch instead using HPS to add a major third. Amazing how it is adjustable to the scale you play in! If you set it to C major it adds only notes from that scale. So if you play a D it will add an F instead of an F sharp. I mixed the extra harmony 50% with the original note. It is followed by a HD hall reverb to give it a bit of space. Does anyone like to know the exact settings for this patch, just let me know.

Are you going up or down for the third? I have found going up on any of the harmonizers to sound..not so great. Except for the ring modulator.

I'm going up 1 third. The extra tone sounds just like my bass, just a third higher. It is not an artificially generated sound. No idea how they do it, but I like it.

I don't think I can smuggle the ringmodulator into my acoustic combo's...

Yes, I know that most of the dirt effects in the Zoom have a clean blend...
...

But I think the 'clean' blend of any given effect is only the clean/fx blend from the previous slot rather than blending in from the main input jack at multiple points in the chain, so two units in parallel should be a better setup, IMHO
It actually sounds pretty great. I ditched the A/B box for an LS-2, and swapped positions of the two Zooms.

So the B1on is on a blended loop of the Ls-2. It gives me so many options it's ridiculous.

Hi. Can I see your setup? Along with the splitter cables? I'm having a hard time looking for them. And also what headphones do you use.

Edit: I saw the pedalboard at the previous page. :)

Here's my (almost) finished pedalboard.

With the b1on in the loop of the LS-2, I'm able to get some pretty decent drive sounds, and some of the effects behave a little differently in the loop. For instance, I run my reverbs on the b1on, with them set 100% wet, which allows for some really cool sounds, especially when paired with a wah (on the B1xon) or delay.

I'm calling my experiment a success. I haven't really had a chance to go crazy with it at a band practice yet, but I'm sure I'll find a use for lots of stuff!!

My favorite effect at the moment is blending the HPS (set at fifth intervals). Lots of fun for jamming in the mancave. I actually have a patch set up so I can cover the "guitar solo" in We Got the Beat (I play in a classic rock cover band). My guitarist for some reason can't grab the timing of the (extremely simple) solo, so I can just kick in the HPS for just that part and it tracks well enough to make it work.
