Zoom B1Xon Settings Thread...... OMG

The X has the built-in expression pedal.

Which is used for what? I am not going to be using it for a wah wah or anything. I just want cheap options for a fuzz (Time is Running Out), maybe a synth (Just Dance), etc. for the very few songs I need effects. I recently joined a modern rock cover band, and for the first time in over 30 years, will need some effects.

For stuff like that, is it worth the X?

In general, expression pedals built-in to multi-FX can be used not just for wahs but also for volume pedals or assigned to control other parameters (like increasing the gain on a dirt effect). I'm not sure of all the details on how it works on these pedals.

If it were a lot more money, I'd say no. But buying new, for $20 more, I'd get the x model. I have one, usually just use the pedal for volume control. Actually not used it a lot yet. I am pretty sure you can assign it to almost any parameter on one "fx pedal" (virtual pedal?) in a patch.

Mostly from what I've read, distortion and fuzz are not the strong points of multi-effect pedals. So you may be better off getting just a fuzz pedal than a multi. There are two or more fuzz "pedals" in both the b1on and b1xon, and for a light amount of fuzz, I was able to get what I wanted. If I tried for too much fuzz, the whole thing got too noisy. It could probably be made to work with more fuzz if I had spent more time with it. I really don't mean to sound negative, they are a huge bang for the buck. They are fun. There is some learning curve, but well worth it to learn how to make your own patches. Many of the factory preset patches can be beat by your own patch, or copying what others have done. Unless you just don't like it and never use it, I almost guarantee you will get your moneys worth x 2 or x 3 out of it. I have no regrets in buying the x model.

If you are concerned about how the fx pedal works on the x, maybe go to zoom website and download the manual on it.

Just checked the effect list on the B3n, and call me crazy this is still the best selection of effects zoom has to offer in a Bass pedal........

Who loves the heaven am sim?Whats your fav amp? In this video I juice the crap out of the 90's beat, 85 bpm I think. the first is a stock preset "Chill" I turn the auto vol off after the first loop, slicer off also. I adjusted the curve on the auto vol to about 10:00 position. The particle verb patch is my own custom, I cant recall any settings on it.

I sold my B3 and B1xon after getting my B3n, because of budget issues. B1xon is probably the best bang-for-the-buck multi-fx, but I'm loving the B3n - much better emulation quality especially tracking, and the growing list of new effects makes me think it can catch up to the very wide selection of the B1xon.

Cool. OT but how do you like that Xaviere bass?

... Les Claypool style setting.
1st: D.I+
Settings:
Bass, mid treble: to taste depending on the bass you want to use. You essentially want a clear sound. On my active fretted I need to lower the bass, on my fretless I boost the treble etc...
Gain, blend, level: 100
Color switch: ON (most crucial imo)
CHAN: CLN

2nd: 160 comp
Settings:
THRSH: 0
Ratio: 6.0
Gain: 6
KNEE: Hard
Level: 100

3th: Limiter
Settings:
THRSH: 10
Ratio: 6
Level: whatever you want
REL: 1

Recently I was fed up trying to get the eq just like him, so I said "whatever" and messed around adding pedals to make it sound more aggressive, useful for playing tracks like "here come the bastards".
In order to do this, I added the parametric eq in front of the dbx with settings: freq=800Hz, Q=4 and gain=11
And also an M comp right as first pedal with it's stock settings.

Another setting I have been doing is one in the style of Justin chancelor's wal.
In order to get something mimicking to hi bass' filter based preamp, two envelope filters are used. This idea came from someone posting on tb how he got close to that sound using a morley wah pedal that is in the fully closed position.
The first is set to low pass filter and the 2nd to band pass filter with the frequency selected lower. Prerequisite: set bridge and neck pickup balance in the middle, play with a pick and use some fresh sounding strings.

1st: M-filter (you can find it after the compressors in the effect list)
freq: 100
Sense: 2 (something low, you don't want it to go fully nuts - it remains an envelope filter after all)
Reso: 2
Type: LPF
Chara: 2pole
VLCTY: Fast
Bal: 65
Level: 100

2nd: another M-filter
freq: 90
Sense: 4
Reso: 0
Type: BPF
Chara: 2pole
VLCTY: Fast
Bal: 65
Level: 100

3th: Parametric eq (Used to get make my bass sound closer to a wal, you might skip this/ use other settings depending on the bass)
Freq1: 100 Hz
Q1: 1
Gain1: 9
Freq2: 3.6 kHz
Q2: 4
Gain2: 20

4th: Splitter (Justin uses some guitar effects, killing his lowest frequencies. Another reason for using this is that we want some distortion/overdrive just on the high notes, hence why we boost it using this effect)
HI: 60
Lo: 10
Freq: 250 Hz
Level: 150

5th: Sansamp BassDrive
Bass: 1
Trebl: 1
Prese: 2
Gain: 28
Blend: 100
Level: choose yourself, mine's low at 25 because all the pedals we placed in front of it gives it a hot signal.
Mid: 1
