Here's an overdrive patch that suitable for metal. this patch is loosely based on the darkglass vintage deluxe.

Here's an overdrive patch that's based on the electro-harmonix hot wax. this patch closely duplicates the hot tubes side and crayon side when both activated.

Here's a new patch idea I came up with. this is for you guns 'n' roses fans. this patch closely duplicates duff mckagen's bass chorus sound a la sweet child of mine.

Duff chorus

Bass chorus: depth: 45, rate: 18, locut: 200hz, level: 100, pred: on

Here's a patch for you warwick bass fans. if you like warwick basses but couldn't afford one, this patch closely duplicates the punchy sounds of the mec pickups on warwick basses and rockbasses.

I’ve reworked that one a bit:

D-Comp removed from spot number 3. 160 Comp added at the end of the chain, resulting a more opened sound.

It's a shame there is no practical way (without putting a laptop in the loop, or other device) to control the B1on from another source such as an FCB1010, or the Zoom B9 I have. That would give even more buttons to hit than the B3n, and much the same sounds.

If the B1on responds to patch change requests in a pretty standard way (I could probably analyse the library program with Midi Ox) then an FCB1010 plus the £40 MIDI host converter would work at about the same price, but with more foot switches available. Or I could use my Zoom B9. The total investment will have been more than a B3n, but I already have the B9!

If all you want to do is change patch and you have the FCB1010 and that's all you'll ever want to do (with only one pedal), then that's probably the way to go.
If you want to control the individual effect parameters and/or
want to control LOTS of pedals (including non-Zoom midi controllable pedals) and/or
would prefer not to have to learn the details of midi and/or
like the idea of a graphical programming interface with LOTS of flexibility,
then maybe the ZPI is worth considering.

I haven't pushed the ZPI hard as yet - the documentation is lagging way, way behind its capabilities. When I get that sorted, the price must increase! It does too much!

BTW: I know little about the B9. Can it act as a controller?

The B9 has MIDI out (DIN), so can be used as a controller, as well as a unit in its own right. It even has an FX loop, so in theory you could change patches on the B9 and have a B1on in the loop change to a patch to provide additional effects, should you really want to go crazy with the number. It has two controller axes, and it might be possible to assign those to control elements on the B1on, but I'd have to look at the respective MIDI implementations.

I am considering it because the effects are better on the B1 than the B9 (although the B9 is no slouch), and with a MIDI host, that gives me much the same sort of power as a B3n. If I sold other stuff that might then fund an actual B3n, and I would have a back up, effectively.

The B9 does allow you to make cheesy 70s synth sounds using it as a note-based MIDI controller, which is something that wouldn't be possible with the B1on, but would work with an FCB1010 and one of my Proteus 2000s.

From that, sounds like you would need just a usb host converter to change B1on patch from the B9. Let us know how you go!
 
I have a new patch to share with you: another take on the series compression.
I already shared one like this some time ago in this thread, but it was actually bad, as I got the values for thresholds the other way round.
The point of series compression is to put two compressor after each other, with the first one only affecting the strongest peaks, and the 2nd being a smooth compression.
The results should be a sound that is compressed in very consistent way without sounding squashed or noisy.

The issue is that the compressors on the zoom are all the kind of models that kick in equally hard no matter what frequency is being fed. Expensive hardware compressors let some more lows get through unaffected.
I tried to achieve the same thing by putting the splitter effect first, lowering the lows lower than 200 Hz. The same splitter is added at the end undoing the volume drop.

The end result is a studio-like compression effect for our Zoom models.
I tried those on all four basses that I own and i messed with the threshold and volume levels so that the patch works on all of them without changing the overall output.
Could you all try this as well on your instruments and give some feedback?
