Zoom B1Xon Settings Thread...... OMG

Fiddling with my new Zoom, the manual, and the web, I can’t find any signal bypass setting except the tuning mode. From what I read I could make a new patch without any effect - but that is a bit silly. Or isn’t it? Simply put: how on earth do I all switch effects OFF...?

Which Zoom?
Tuner mode works fine, why not use it?
I use it on my B1on and the bypassed sound is very clean, I can’t hear the difference between the sound of my bass straight into the amp and the bypassed Zoom in tuner mode.

Yet, I ended up making an always on compressor and Eq setting, so I really don’t turn my Zoom
Off anymore.

But then - so it is correct that as long as your bass sound goes through the pedal, there is always some effect or patch ‘on’ ? Only way to get an instant ‘clean’ bypass is activate the tuner? Defining a new effect or patch and then stomping 47 times to find it during a gig sounds rather impossible...

Most of the patches are ok to demonstrate what sounds you can achieve but I only found about 6 that I would actually use and then I tweaked them to my liking. I moved those into a group so there is minimal stomping to move around them.

You could put a bypass patch in between each effects patch that you use so it would only take one pedal press to reach a bypass patch.

How many patches would you go through during a gig? Why not set up a "central" bypass patch, and the other patches you would use above and below that?
Or several bypass patches, every certain amount of patches with effects. You get plenty of available patches with these little boxes.

Seriously, it’s a question of organizing the patches in a logical order.

I don’t have that problem since I rarely switch effects in a same song and I use my B1on with other pedals as well, which are dedicated to be turned on and off.

Using the ToneLib software, there’s a patch called “bypass” which is exactly that. ToneLib makes it really easy to copy and paste it into other patches, and delete effects from patches, so you can just wipe out whatever effects are in a preset patch, and insert bypass as an effect. Then replicate it it as many times as you like on other presets.
 
Yo guys - made my own Bypass patch (I could even delete the bypass ‘effect’ ;-) with the nice app ToneLib, and defined it as A0. Easy to change the patch order and rename. A1 will indeed be my only and next/near patch, because I only use very few effects anyway. You would say that a regular pedal-like on/off switch would be made possible by Zoom, but it work like this as well.

Maybe but as said above the tuner bypass is essentially the same thing. It’s not as practical because you have to hold it for a second, I get that. On one of my boards I put one of my MS-60b’s in a true bypass loop pedal so I have an external switch. It’s handy not only as a stomp switch but really nice being able to scroll patches while bypassed. Zoom made the most out of the fewest controls on these pedals, so there are definitely trade offs like this.

BTW how do you even begin creating these patches? You hear a sound and you now immediately what to select?

One remark: on the Zoom B1on the exciter effect has a range of 0-100 so the values you show should be taken x10.
I found it strange that you were using it with such low values, having no audible effect for me. I figured out the difference by reading the B3 manual.

Glad you enjoyed the patch ideas. and I think I may of thought of an emg patch idea when I've had the zoom b3. I have to look at my notes to find it. to answer your question, yeah kinda. I pretty much experiment with some effects and amp models to create a patch and arrange them in a particular order to make the patch sound more accurate.

on the exciter effect, I think that 0-100 range you've mention is the level control. from what I know, the exciter controls consist of bass, treble, and level. it has the same controls as the bottom b, only they sound different from each other obviously.

also most of the effects on the patch ideas I've posted were just default settings. the whole idea of my patch ideas thread is that you can use the patch ideas and if desired, adjust the effect settings to your liking. so feel free to adjust the settings to your liking on your zoom b1on or b1xon.
 
Here's a patch idea I came up with that closely duplicates john entwhistle's overdriven bass sound from the who's 1978 concert.

Hiwatt bass drive

znr: thresh: 17, detect: efxln, level: 100

d comp: sense: 3, tone: 4, level: 100, attack: fast

tube screamer: gain: 50, tone: 70, level: 100, balance: 35

hartke: bass: 4, mid: 4, treble: 3, midfq: 250hz, tube: 50, level: 50, comp: 2, cab: bm4x12, mix: 50
