Zoom b3 patch Ideas

Awesome Thread Here, thanks to all for the great patch ideas, please keep em coming!

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I was looking for a Zoom B3 patch that could get my Lakland 44-02 to sound close to that P Bass sound that Pete Shand from The New Mastersounds gets on "Take What You Need". What a Great Sound he has there!

Yeah, try setting all the patches back to default. When you add a new sim to the patch, that sim will be in default setting though.
Just play around and find out what each effect does and how to use it, go through each sim individually. The B3 is an amazing piece of kit and its constantly surprising me.

I had the 505 mkII for guitar, which I also used on bass, and it wasn't bad especially for the price. The flanger, chorus, octave and delay worked well on bass, but the B3 (apart from it being bass specific) is on a completely different level. The B3 and G3 are their premium products now, nothing but good reviews, as far as I've read.

Any body achieve an octave up sound? But mimicking a guitar, pretty much the same way the bassist to Royal Blood makes this growly guitar tone using his bass and an ehx pog 2, just wondering if anyone has achieved this on the B3? I can't find a good octave up sound without it sounding terrible, anyone able to point me in the right direction?

To piggyback on what Mattbass97 said, I haven’t been thrilled with the existing Octive voicings on the B3 (haven’t yet had time to dive into experimentation mode).

For example, the default pino, tl octave, and oct OD patches are a good start for using an octave effect sound, but imho need some tweaking.

What’s your special sauce settings that have improved the Octive effect? (Or what settings have you adjusted on the baked-in patches mentioned above to improve upon them?)

The Pitchshift and Monopitch can do an octave up, as well as the PDL Pitch and PDL MnPit if you have and expression pedal, its just a case of playing with them.
I prefer just using the Octave sim and playing higher up. That way you get the authentic bass sound which will be prominent (highest pitch will usually be prominant) with the sim adding the bass underneath, making it sound better.

Like I said I almost solely use the Octave sim. The secret is in the level, bass and mid controls. Reducing the Oct level to around 60 gives a thick octave without it being over powering, 40 is a subtle octave and 20 just adds a little weight to your sound.
Dialing back the Bass on the sim to around 3 tightens it up a little and the Mid control adds the growl. Reducing it gives you a smooth, deep R&B/HipHop type thump while boosting it gives it the growly OC2 character it is based on.

I think you should use only the neck pickup and roll off the tone. Then, i would try some amp sims... as the flip top maybe? Also try different settings with an equalizer...

I'd do this, too... also, play over the neck pickup instead of the bridge... you'll get a slightly hollower sound this way... more reminiscent of P-bass...
And boost the low-mids, P-basses have a bit of a mid-hump in th 250-300Hz range
