Zoom b3 patch Ideas

Hiya, hope you can help me out. I'm using the Zoom B3 and currently have three different patches which I use for equal number of songs, respectively. However, I have noticed that each patch results in a particular volume output. Is there a way to get a balanced volume output from the B3 for these patches, so the volume of the bass remains the same in all songs?
I guess I can control the volume output at the amp level, right? Is that the only way to go or would you recommend other alternative?
The difference in volume is because in one patch for a song I'm using a bass boost, and then for the other song I don't, or have a compressor within the patch... Hope you get what I mean.

Yes you can just select the patch you want to edit and press the total button on the top row of buttons this'll open a new menu and on the left screen it will give you a level parameter just change that to taste and you can set each patches level without adjusting the individual pedals

For the record: it wasn't actually designed to simulate a Rickenbacker 4001 sound, more a patch that I found enhanced the sound of my own 4001.

I have been chasing the "classic" Ampeg SVT sound his afternoon and came up with this: Invalid Link Removed
For the first time I have used two amp sims in the one patch and I'm pretty happy with the result.
To my ears it's not a perfect SVT clone sound, but as close as I've managed to date.
It works for me with my amp EQ set dead flat right across the scope (ie. 12 o'clock on every dial) which will allow me to tweak the settings easily to suit each room I play in.
It's certainly enough to hold me back from buying a Tech 21 Bass VT for now, which was where I was heading this morning!
160 Comp: Thrsh -30, Ratio 2.6, Gain 9, Knee Hard, Level 40
BMan: Bass 0, Mid 6, Treble 0, Mid_F 630Hz, Gain 48, Level 60, Deep Off, 8 x 10 AG, Mix 50
SVT: Bass 0, Mid 5, Treble 2, Mid_F 80Hz, Gain 50, Level 38, Ultra Both, 8 x 10 AG, Mix 50
I'm going to try it in my MS60-B now, so I can add in a ZNR effect to quieten it down a little.

I'm considering picking one of these up and I'd like to use a patch to copy a Twiggy Ramirez tone similar to what he got on the Marilyn Manson records, mostly AntiChrist Superstar. Does anyone have any suggestions on how the B3 could emulate that sound?

I've been a big reader of this thread since a few monthes and it helped me a lot to find new tones withe the B3. So, thanks !
I react to your post since I own both the VT bass and the B3.
I think it's more easy to deal with the VT bass than with the B3, only for the Ampeg tones, of course. There's a learning curve, but once you understand what you do, it's a great pedal.
And so today I use the VT bass as my always on pedal, set on a clean tone, and I use the B3 for the effects.
My main use of my couple B3/VT Bass is to be used in front of my regular amp, so I try to get not too coloured sounds. I'm clearly not looking for the cab sim effects even if they are great.
I struggled a bit to find good distorded tone but I think I figured out some tricks I can share.
For good overdriven tones, I mainly use 3 preamps of the B3 :
- the SVT
- the Super Bass
- the MXR DI
- the Bass Driver
These 3 preamps are able to create huge tones while maintaining good low ends. I like the tone of the BB Preamp for example, but it cuts a lot in the low end.
- MXR DI :
for a flat setting, use it on the distorsion mode and set bass at 7, middle at 0 and treble between 7 and 9. Don't engage the colour switch (it creates a big mid scoop).
And then play with the Gain and the Balance settings.
- Super Bass and SVT : I found that if you want to use them as dirt boxes, it's interesting to put them in a patch on which you set the total balance around 50 -> it can give you plenty of dirt but with blending the clean signal.
As I want to keep maximum of the low end, I don't use the cab sims in that precise case.
- the Bass Driver. This one sounds good, but as the original it's a big mid scooper, even with the blend at low level.
So, my trick is to use it again in a patch with a Total Balance set around 50. And I set the Balance of the BDDI around 50 too.
And just after the BDDI I use the Para Eq with a fequency set at 800Hz and a Q of 2. Like that if I want my mids, I have them.
I tell that because I think this kind use may work great for the ones as you who own both the B3 and the MS-60B.
You can set the MS-60B at the end of the chain with your cool amp sim setting, and use the B3 as I explained. And as you seem to like too the dirty dirty sounds, it may please you.
Another thing regarding the amp sims : I analysed a bit their frequencies (I shared some curves in the "Zoom B3 as preamp" thread), and in all the amp sims, the mid frequency acts on a very narrow band, which doesn't sound always very musical.
So I prefer to use the Para Eq after the Amp sim, with a Q=2 or 1, and use it as my mid knob. Test it ! The result is interesting, especially if you use the SVT sim with a big amount of cab sim.
I wanted to like the Tube Screamer and the Squeak, but I still don't find good settings where I can use them as dirt pedals without coupling them to some Amp sims.
I don't know if I'm very clear in my explanations, so don't hesitate to ask me.
And regarding your GAS for the VT Bass : be aware that it's a very good sounding pedal for clean to very light distorded tone, but when the drive is too high I find it less intersting.
But it transforms in a very good way the tone of the dirt pedals you put in front of it. I can't explain why, but all these pedals sound very fuller when going through the VT Bass.

here's a new patch I came up with. This patch closely duplicates the warm grinding distortion sound of a darkglass vintage microtubes.

I made a saddle settings for mine equipment and the sound is 99% the microtube sound!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW.
I never try two OD together with so much good results.
I don't have the real one microtube with me,i compare the youtube clips with the patch.You make my weekend

glad you liked the patch idea, titaniumrx. It's actually more of a distortion model through a preamp model, but yeah it does have amazing results. This combination was my one attempt to duplicate a darkglass distortion sound and honestly I'm impressed with the results. It's a great patch for those who want that darkglass distortion sound.
Crystalman85.....I've really enjoyed reading through your work here. I can't wait to get one of these units and start working with some of them. I do have a question though, I've always loved Twiggy Ramirez's bass sound, especially in the clip below. I know he often uses an MXR Blowtorch but I'm not sure if that's whats in use here or not. In either event, I'd love to emulate the sound in this video along with the MXR Blowtorch, if different. Any ideas?
I'm not quite sure how to get his sound, but the owner's manual of the mxr bass d.i plus has his setting. If you can download the bass d.i manual from the mxr website, you can use his settings with mxr bass d.i plus model. Also if it helps, try using the ampeg svt model along with the mxr bass d.i with his settings and see if you're able to get that sound you're looking for.
also I didn't know that twiggy Ramirez uses the mxr bass blowtorch. My only guess on how to get that mxr bass blowtorch sound is by using the xotic bass bb preamp with an acoustic amp model and maybe a graphic eq model. I'm not quite sure if that'll give you the sound you're looking for, but give it a shot and see if it works.

Wikipedia says that Klaus-Peter Matziol used an Alembic bass and live videos he's using a Gibson Thunderbird as well, played with a pick and I would say with flat wound strings, into an ampeg or Acoustic type amp.
A pretty straight forward tone. Bass into the Ampeg or Acoustic sim and adjust the EQ till you like what you hear.
JPJ used Jazz basses with low action, flat wound strings (a pick for this song as hes strumming two strings, octaves) into Acoustic amps. Theres an interview on youtube where he explains the riff.
So grab a Jazz into the acoustic sim with boosted mids (800hz-ish).
