Zoom b3 patch Ideas

I use it like a string of stompboxes - first one is always the compressor in every patch. I have patches that have OD and fuzz selectable, but I would like an edgy-compressor sound if possible from one of the comp models alone. Hell, if they modeled the Accountant I'd be pretty smiley.

The limiter model from my perspective has an edgy compressor sound. I've tried it out while testing out a certain patch a while back and I would say it sounds pretty edgy. so if you want to try a different compressor model to give you some edge, give the limiter model a try.

Does it still do the other 'half' of compression? or just peak limiting? I'll try it, but I'm just curious to know what I'm in for.

Here's another patch idea I came up with. this patch closley duplicates peter iwers's distorted bass sound from such in flames sounds like trigger and f(r)iend.

Flaming bass

Section 1: znr: thresh: 18, detect: efxln, level: 95

Section 2: squeak: gain: 70, tone: 40, level: 95, balance: 17

Section 3: svt: bass: 4, mid: 3, treble: 5, midfq: 300hz, gain: 30, level: 40, ultra: both, cab: swr4x10, mix: 50

Here's a new patch idea I came up with. this one is inspired by a certain youtube clip. this patch has an edgy distorted bass sound suitable for djent music.

Hello People,

I just recieved my Zoom B3 yesterday and thankfully found this thread.
My band plays several funk covers of artist like

Stevie Wonder (superstition, higher ground, part time lover, as, i wish)
Michael Jackson (i want you back, human nature)

And golden oldies as aint no mountain high enough, a real mother for ya and aint nobody)

So now my question, because i am not that great with what patches I should use.

Does anyone know what patches I should use for these songs?
Because there are so many patches over here I do not know where to start.

Thanks,

MisterQ

Here's a new patch idea I came up with. this patch has a warm bass sound that suitable for any kind of music.

Super warm bass

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 90, attack: 7

Section 2: bottom b: bass: 4, treble: 3, level: 50

Section 3: monotone: bass: 4, mid: 4, treble: 3, midfq: 300hz, gain: 45, level: 90, char: flat, cab: ag8x10, mix: 45

OK guys and gals, I think I'm the old timer in the group (only 53 though) but typically my patches aren't so much on overdrive/distortion but more about trying to cop a certain amp or band's tone. Tonight I was feeling my inner McCartney and started fooling around trying to get a good Rubber Soul/Magical Mystery Tour feel, and wound up not too unhappy w/ what I found. I was really trying to get that old woody/hollowbody Hofner rumble without having a ton of low end. So...my Beatles McCartney Hofner patch:

Jazz bass: both pups dimed, tone @ 2-3
Amp EQ fairly flat, bass 2, mid 2.5, treble 2

Position #1: B-Man: gain 52, bass 0, mid -2, 300Hz, treble -1, deep (off), level 60, cab (orgn), mix 100
Position #2: 160Comp: trhsh -22, ratio 4.0, gain 6, knee (hard), level 64
Position #3: ZNR: thrsh 10, detect EfxIn, Level 79

I still need to adjust the comp settings just a little bit, but this overall made me happy. To my ears, I can hear just a little bit of that hollowbody resonance. I'll keep this patch in mind for some of my hollowbody heroes (ie Jack Casady).

I also slipped some foam under the strings. With the EQ flat and tone dialed down you would think that the treble would suffer, but to my ears (again) it sounds pretty right. I need to listen to a couple of the songs a little closer to ascertain with Macca was up to, but I think just lightening up on the compressor and being aware of my right hand attack will get the sufficient highlights out.

Enjoy!

I haven't got a zoom b3 yet but I really want one. I was wondering if there was a patch that made the bass sound like an orchestra or some crazy stuff like that.

I'm not quite sure if there is an effect that can make like an orchestra sound or perhaps an orchestra hit sounds like you would hear on yamaha keyboards. but you could try experimenting with a pitch shifter effect or a z organ effect.

Here's a new patch idea I came up with. this patch is similar to crunch metal bass. only with an ampeg 8x10 cab model and a limiter to give it a stacked grinding sound. a great patch for rock and metal music.

Crunch metal bass 2

Section 1: limiter: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 100, release: 4

Section 2: d.i plus: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: 5, gain: 25, blend: 30, level: 100, color: on, chan: distortion

Section 3: ag amp: bass: 4, mid: 4, treble: 3, midfq: 300hz, gain: 45, level: 90, char: bright, cab: ag8x10, mix: 50

What is more worth it. Saving for a new bass or getting this pedal?

This question belongs here. Not in a thread about specific patches.
Ummm ..... (strange question by the way)

If you have a crap bass and want a new one, then save for a new bass.

If you have a reasonable bass that you are happy with and want to experiment with bass effects, then buy a B3.
