Zoom b3 patch Ideas

The police one isn't as synthy. Does sound the like the same line though :)

I've just started to mess with my B3, will be playing with it more tomorrow.

Seems I have to turn my bass volume all the way up though or a lot of the synths cut out a lot even if I crank my amp.

So I turn my amp down and a lot of others (defret for example) aren't loud enough, I guess you gotta work them with a boost?

Seems like it'll take a bit of work to get several patches evenly matched so when you switch your volume doesn't change drastically. Not complaining, there's a lot to this pedal, just gonna take awhile to figure it out.

I want to have maybe 3 good patches that or very different but work together for looping.

You can adjust each patch's level independently in the TOTAL menu. That should be your first stop when trying to achieve unity gain between patches.

I felt lazy to bring my entire pedalboard to rehearsal, so I thought I'd try using a zoom to get the sound of my always-on Darkglass B7k.

It's not exact, but it gets me the right 'feeling' I usually use my B7k for: a sharp clanky attack, almost brittle. It takes into account both the B7k character and the 4-band EQ on the B7k.

Here's the settings on my Zoom MS60b, but I'm sure it'll work for a B3.

SVT -> Bass Graphic EQ -> Bass Para EQ

SVT settings:
Bass -1
Mid +4
Treble +2
Mid Freq 350
Gain 50
Level 30
Ultra: Both
Cab: AG 8x10
Mix 40

Bass Graphic EQ:
50Hz -10
120Hz +4
400Hz 0
500Hz 0
800Hz -4
4.5kHz +4
10kHz 0
Level 100

Bass Para EQ:
Freq1 300Hz
Q1 16
Gain1 -10
Freq2 2.0kHz
Q2 1
Gain2 5
Level 100

The SVT is for the grindy flavour, graphic EQ accounts for my usual 4-band EQ settings, and para EQ accounts for the baked-in character of the B7k.

If you guys give it a try, let me know how it works out for you.

Here's a new patch idea I came up with. this patch was inspired by a youtube clip. this patch has a heavy distortion sound with a preamp for tone shaping playing through a hartke bass amp.

Hartke bass distortion

Section 1: d.i plus: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: 2, gain:25, blend: 50, Level:100, color: on: chan: clean

Section 2: overdrive: gain: 50, tone: 25, level: 100, balance: 20

Section 3: hartke: bass:4, mid:3, treble:-2, midfq:300hz, tube:45, level:50 comp:4, cab:ha4x10, mix:50

section 1: bassdrive: bass: 3, treble: 0, presence: 2, gain: 45, blend: 70, level: 90, mid: 7

Section 2: squeak: gain: 5, tone: 45, level: 100, balance: 18

Section 3: g-krueger: bass: 4, mid: 3, treble: 5, midfq: 300hz, gain: 40, level: 90, color: off, cab: ag8x10

Here's what I came up with for these songs. for a faith no more sound, you simply need a punchy sounding bass and this patch should do the trick.

Billy bass

Section 1: znr: thresh: 18, detect: gtrln, llevel: 100

Section 2: bassdrive: bass: 2, treble: 3, presence: 2, gain: 45, blend: 70, level: 95, mid: 7

Section 3: g-krueger: bass: 4, mids: 4, treble: 5, midfq:250hz, gain: 45, level: 90, color: hi, cab: ag8x10, mix: 50

For that ghost bass sound, a crunchy distortion will do the trick. this patch is the least I can do to closely duplicate that sound. give this a try.

Bass crunch

Section 1: bassdrive: bass: 2, treble: 3, presence: 4, gain: 50, blend: 70, level: 90, mid: 7

Section 2: squeak: gain: 20, tone: 45, level: 100, balance: 18

Section 3: svt: bass: 4, mid: 4, treble: 5, midfq:300hz, gain:35, level: 40, ultra: both, cab: swr4x10, mix: 50

as for nib, the beginning intro has a basic wah effect. so be sure to have one. after the bass wah intro, there's a distorted bass sound with a wah effect. so here's what I came up with for that.

N.I.B distorted intro

section 1: znr: thresh: 17, detect: efxln, level: 100

Section 2: awah+dist: sense: 1, gain: 70, level: 100, dry: 50, tone: 50, reso: 9, chain: after

section 3: acoustic: bass: 4, mid: 5, treble: 3, ,midfq: 350hz, gain: 45, level: 85, bright: off, cab: bm4x12, mix: 50

Geezer bass

section 1: m comp: thresh: 17, ratio: 4, level:100, attack: 8

section 2: t-scream: gain:10, tone: 25, level: 100, balance: 25

and for the journey bass sound, it bass track on the song stone in love sounds mid-focused. so here's what I came up with for that.

Section 2: bottom b: bass: 4, treble: 2, level: 50

Section 3: bass pre: bass: 3, treble: 2, level: 80, mid: 4, freq: 300hz

as an added bonus, here's a patch you can use for if you're playing don't stop believing.

Journey bass 2

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 15, ratio: 4, level: 100, attack: 8

Section 2: Chorus: depth: 45, rate: 25, mix: 50, locut: 180hz, level: 90, pred: off

Section 3: bass pre: bass: 3, treble: 2, level: 80, mid: 4, freq: 300hz

New patch for B3-Ms60B Zoomies!!!!
I play it with fingers in the demo,but if you try it with pick sounds killer,at least to my ears.;)
I play it with my Attitude P bass pickup only and my strings are D'Adarrio nickels.

Sorry to be a little off topic, but do you have settings for a Tim Commerford a lá Rage Against the Machine tone? I sent you a message via conversation but I guess you never saw. No worries if you didn't.

Could you also do a Nick O Malley/Arctic Monkeys patch please?

I had queried about this previously too - someone mentioned that it sounded basically like a mid-scooped Sansamp bass driver tone. I created a patch using (I believe) a compressor, the bassdrive, and the g-krueger amp sim to get a decent "Rage" tone - I'll try and check my actual settings, but play around a little with those (scoop the mid-range on the bassdrive) and you can probably get what you're after.

This sounds to me like a P-bass going through an SVT. I don't have my B3 in front of me right now, but start with the SVT amp sim, gain set on the high side to get that breakup. Add a tube screamer in the next slot if the SVT sim doesn't get there on its own. Solo the neck pickup on your Jazz.

This is really good. I dialed it in and it sounds awesome. I have been working on getting a tone similar to Ghost's "Pinnacle to the Pit"
I swapped out the graphic eq for the D.I.+ and it is super gritty and sounds really close.

these are the settings if you're interested in trying it.
