Has anyone found a good patch for a beatle bass sound?
Hey, DCruise, this is what I've been trying out for my McCartney/Hofner sound:
Tonight I was feeling my inner McCartney and started fooling around trying to get a good Rubber Soul/Magical Mystery Tour feel, and wound up not too unhappy w/ what I found. I was really trying to get that old woody/hollowbody Hofner rumble without having a ton of low end. So...my Beatles McCartney Hofner patch:
Jazz bass: both pups dimed, tone @ 2-3
Amp EQ fairly flat, bass 2, mid 2.5, treble 2
Position #1: B-Man: gain 52, bass 0, mid -2, 300Hz, treble -1, deep (off), level 60, cab (orgn), mix 100
Position #2: 160Comp: trhsh -22, ratio 4.0, gain 6, knee (hard), level 64
Position #3: ZNR: thrsh 10, detect EfxIn, Level 79
I still need to adjust the comp settings just a little bit, but this overall made me happy. To my ears, I can hear just a little bit of that hollowbody resonance. I'll keep this patch in mind for some of my hollowbody heroes (ie Jack Casady).
I also slipped some foam under the strings. With the EQ flat and tone dialed down you would think that the treble would suffer, but to my ears (again) it sounds pretty right. I need to listen to a couple of the songs a little closer to ascertain with Macca was up to, but I think just lightening up on the compressor and being aware of my right hand attack will get the sufficient highlights out.
Enjoy!
