512mb card will hold about 8 hours of 128 bit MP3

I used it as a room mic for drums last night- I will post the clip soon. I will be recording my gig in Atlantic City, NJ on Friday (Trump Plaza, big stage, pro sound crew- it will give a great idea of a concert recording). I am loving this recorder. It ccepted my microcenter generic 2gb card with no issues as well.

Toms River? Come on down, check it out in person! 9-1 on the beach in AC, Trump Beach Bar. I got it at Sam Ash, they had tons in stock. Maybe I'll see you. I attached a small 128 kbs mp3 drum room recording- very untreated room last night, about 2 feet off of the ground, 4 feet in front of kit, front side, 90 degree pattern, peaks at about -12. Sorry I couldn't upload anything larger- it kept coming back that the file was too big.

"The H2 is the only portable recorder with 4 mic capsules onboard for 360° recording. With 4 mic capsules in a W-X/Y configuration, the audio is decoded instantly, bringing these four signals together for unparalleled stereo imaging.

But the H2 doesn't stop there. For maximum flexibility, you can record from the front of the H2 in a 90° pickup pattern or the rear of the H2 in a 120° pickup pattern at up to 96 kHz/24-bit resolution as a WAV file, or as an MP3 file at bitrates up to 320 kbps. Additionally, you can record in a 360° pickup pattern at up to 48kHz/24-bit resolution which will allow you to convert your recordings to 5.1 Surround."

Or am I missing what you're saying?

Can you guys break it down for me, in the SIMPLEST terms what are the difference between the H2 and the H4.

Which one is better for recording songs as in jam sessions?
Nothing studio quality, just good and clear enough for like myspace you know like, "Hey, check out my band, this is what we sound like"

edit: Is there a software to merge like 5 or 6 tracks together? Like merge Drums with Geetar with Bass with Geetar with Vocals with Keys.

Yes, the H4 comes bundled with Cubase LE which can do what you're saying. You'd have to do it two or four tracks at a time, but it could be done without too much difficulty. You could actually use it to record directly into Cubase two tracks at a time through the USB connection.

The H2's look very nice and should be as good(soundwise) as an H4. Below is an H4 that's caught every show since November 2006.

NOTE:
Since the BOSE stuff does well off-axis, the placement shown works.
With a traditional setup(backline, foldback monitors, FOH), your mileage will vary.

Describe the angle of where you put the H4 to where the instruments and amps are. And what about the sound quality?

Sorry to derail this thread, but I gotta know... how are those Bose L1s working out for you guys?

I picked up an H2 last week. I recorded our first rehersal with it today. I recorded it in its "360" mode (or whatever it's called) with the 90 degree side facing the drummer and the 120 degree side facing the bass and guitar amps.

My main question is what software would you recommend I use to manipulate the recordings (normalization, etc.) and to combine the four tracks (left front, right front, left rear, right rear) into standard two-channel stereo?
