Actually, the effects chain that the Zoom pedals follow can serve as a fairly good guideline when setting up a chain of separate effect pedals, e.g. the modulation effects before delays and dirt before the equalizer.

Boof, eat my ZOOM B9.1 ut! Agree with it being an amazing piece of kit: ditched my ever-growing pedalboard for it and haven't looked back. It totally killed my pedal gas. Have replaced the crap valve with a Mullard - BLAMMO! Did an Italian tour this summer and had to use it's DI (usually just mono) a fair bit - great sound, really reliable too. Used it to record an album recently - the stereo effects are excellent in it
(takes time to tweak them - actually all the effects need some serious time spent on them, but it's very worthwhile.)

So yeah, I'm a big fan of the big red box.

Ok, just the big box. The red, not so much...

Has anyone customised theirs??? Thoughts?

And I'll take a number...

I'd be interested to hear what kind of sounds B9.1ut owners use and anything they wish they could do but can't (sounds, routing, 2 effects together but they're in the same place, etc.)

I use various Tremolo effects, Octaver, Overdrive/Distortion w/Noise Reduction - especially good with a pick, big Reverb when playing with an EBow, Reverse Delay & regular delays of various lengths, bit of Flanging, other stuff I can't remember right now!

I do wish I could send cabinet sim sounds via the DI, but not to my amp via the jack output.

I use a patch per song, sometimes more, so I wish distortions and eq could be linked/joined so they could be switched in using one switch rather than two - maybe I should get wider shoes? :eyebrow:

Thoughts?

I rock the super cheapy B1 and like it alot. I use it mostly for home practice through a peavy microbass or with headphones. Once in a while I bring it to band practice, but ushually I love my GK 400rb straight up. Still the B1 is a bang for the buck king!!

im probably lame but all i have is a zoom b1 but i use it for just about everything. even if i am just running it with no effects i always have the ZNR function on. so even if my bass is a little buzzy when i am not playin it is silent. thank you father best gift i have ever gotten.

I also have a Zoom 506II and have used it for several years. I primarily use it as a tuner and compressor. It's a great on-stage tuner because you can step on both pedals and mute your signal and tune quietly. It really comes in handy when you need to change tuning on the fly (such as to dropped D) without switching basses. It also has a very cool fretless simulator patch. I don't use a lot of effects, so I run the Zoom into a VT Bass direct to the board.

Yes and no, the outputs on Zoom units can get a little complicated, with the right connections it can work. If you are using a regular 1/4 to 1/4" cable, just like going to an amp, you will be fine but you may need to boost the signal at the board since that output is not true 1volt line level. The real difference comes into play if you plug in a 1/4" trs cable, then you have a true stereo signal that can drive a set of headphones or can be split with an insert cable to 2 amps or channels. I very often record using both regular 1/4 and an insert cable for stereo effects and such.

bigbadjonny....> The B9.iut is diff harder to dial in the desired sounds with then my zoom player 3000b was. However after lotsw of retweaking and so on got it real close to the sound I used with the player2000B. Comp, heavy overdrive, 8 band eq, ring mod, little bit of room reverb. With several small variations of parts of this formulas settings for best in mix choices. The B9.1ut does have more useable delay/echo, chorus and flanger then the player 2000B had. So I have been useing those effects some to. Like rpev processors I use mine direct to mixer which also handles my synths and guitar procesor. Which makesd for up to 10 ch';s at a time with two for bass or guitar. Everything runs in stereo just like it has for the past 12 plus yrs. Lol. Main thing I love about the zooms is getting great ready for recording tone without use of any cab simulators.l

For customization of the unit added some leftover glow dots that used on bass and guitar fretboards for glow in dark markers. Lol.

Sounds like you have some cool sounds set up! Hmmm, must try out some ring mod tones...

And glow-in-the-dark stickers? Not something I'd thought of - I have my eye on some vintage space programme stickers :p

Wow! That's quite a statement considering Boss' reputation. I think you could very well be right, though. I sometimes feel Zoom effects are bang on the money in terms of what you want to hear. Not too far out, not too subtle, just right.

All the 500 series were the same price point retailing $99-119 new, I know several gtr players still using their 505 or the acoustic version. I have a the 508 Delay and it is still a pretty cool delay. I have seen some modulation pedals like the one from Behringer labeled a Multi.
