Finally got my patches exactly how I like them AND with a balanced output between them on/through my MS-60b. I have a CLEAN, a mild OD, a Nirvana style OD/ Chorus and a Fuzz. Those are labeled and what I cycle through while playing normally. I have the Cello patch loaded as well as a Muse and Muse Hysteria patch but they are not active in the stomp rotation.

So I realized that I spend MOST of my time playing through the headphone out of my Fender Rumble. Not that it takes up alot of space but I also only have a 900 Sq Ft house. lol So I am sort of tossing around replacing it with the B1Four I just bought in the TB classifieds. Anyway- excited that it shipped from up north today so I'll be playing through it soon!

I was looking for a new multi fx in my guitar rig. Ended up walking out with a Zoom G6. I’ve had (and sold) a Pod Go and an HX Stomp. Somehow I always end up back with a Zoom.

First impressions- this thing is awesome. Feels very premium. The large touchscreen is great. The guitar amp models sound fantastic with the built in IRs.

I can add more impressions if anyone is interested. I’ll put it through it’s paces on the bass too. There aren’t any bass amps but many of the effects have a dry blend.

Man, I'm loving the Zoom G6. It's definitely usable with bass on the Bassman amp model (or just use your own preamp pedal in the loop). I've made a couple of quick n nasty sound samples. Bass is a '81 Ibanez Blazer (P bass clone).

DRIVES
Demo of the drives which have clean blend. All of these are through the Bassman with the stock 4x10 Bassman cab. Drums are the built in Zoom ones.
In order of appearance: - Clean tone, Dist+, Rat, NYC Muff and BG Grid.



AMPS
On this one I was comparing the stock Bassman & cab with the Zoom Ampeg SVT model in the B1Four. I put the B1Four in the FX Loop and used the stock SVT amp and cab. It's apples and oranges I know but I just wanted to hear a 'real' bass amp model in the loop compared to the Bassman. You could run a similar setup with a Sansamp in the loop (which I plan on trying...)

Dry tone / Bassman on G6 / Ampeg SVT on Zoom B1Four
Then each one with the Rat and some chorus.



IR (My favourite patch so far)
I could totally see myself using this in my covers band. I have no idea if it sounds OK at gig volume though!

I think that G6 is somehow outside the main Zoom line G3n - G3Xn - G5n - G11. At least I was not able to disassemble G6 firmware, while it was easy with the main line devices.

I purchased the Ownhammer Ampeg IR pack a while ago and used it with my Pod Go.

What’s it got in the way of old Marshall amp models? Is there something along the lines of a Plexi Superlead or a Superbass amp model in there?

That’s the type of sound I have gravitated to with a Line 6 Pod 2.0 I borrowed awhile back, and the Zoom B2 I bought used when I had to give the Pod back. An old Marshall sound with the gain set low and a little compression seems to get a fairly clean sound that works well for fingerstyle P-bass with flats, even when intended for guitar, so I’m always curious to learn about other, newer ways to do that.

I own both a Zoom B1 Four, G1 Four, G1Xon and SM-70CDR, and have owned a B3 in the past.

Honestly I prefer the previous generation G1Xon and SM-70CDR to their newer B1 and G1 Four, and the G1Xon and SM70CDR both have a place in my current pedal setup while the B1 and G1 Four doesn't.

I much prefer the extended parameter control of the previous generation effects to the more limited controls of the effects in their current line, and honestly I don't think there is any obvious improvement of sound quality, apart from when it comes to the dirt, amp and cab simulations/emulations, which though I still find lacking, which is why I don't make any use of those anyway.

I also have customized my G1Xon and MS-70CDR with the 3rd party app that allows you to chose any of the effects of all the previous generation Zoom effects and load them to any one device, though I currently only use my Zoom units for for EQ'ing and reverb effects (Edit!: and by the way also the DBX 160 compressor model, for subtle compression towards the end of my chain, which actually is a great compressor for bass).

Most of the modulation and delay models in those two units are genuinely great too though.

Thanks for doing that, and that sounds like a brighter version of the same general character I’d expect to hear (due to brighter strings and snappier string plucking/picking).

That’s encouraging; seems like it’s in the same ballpark as the few other modeled old Marshalls.

I’m curious what its line out signal level is, too. The Zoom MS pedals and my B2 output what Zoom calls +5dBm, which I found plenty of output level for driving a power amp, which is how I use them with the band...bass-Zoom-power amp-cab.

The G1on/G1xfour and related bass versions all claim to put out +2dBm, so effects differences aside, that takes them out of the running for me because I prefer not to need an additional level of step-up gain from an additional box and power supply. I’m spoiled by being able to just chuck my B2 into the power amp input and go.

Off to look for G6 output specs...

EDIT: found the G6 manual, and it lists the output for each of the L/R channels as 11.4 dBu. I’m fuzzy on how dBm and dBu interrelate, but if 0dBu = 0.775V, the G6 ought to be able to blow either of my power amps to the far reaches of the macroverse (the Crown wants to see 0.775V, the Peavey wants to see 1V).

A few more random thoughts…

I still haven’t tried the G6 through an amp or speakers. Just headphones.

Most of the modulations sound great but they don’t seem improved from the other Zoom boxes. Which means the Octave effect is still not great. Sounds really dark and I can’t get a good subby OC2 type sound.

I found out an interesting trick with the FX loop. You can add send and return as 2 separate blocks so I put the send after the comp and the return before the amp. Then I put a patch cable between the send and return jacks. There is a dry control for the send / return so if I adjust that, I have a dry parallel path to any effect I put between the 2 blocks. It sounds cool with drive effects because you basically have a clean signal mixed in with any of them. You could also add external drives in the loop and retain a clean signal.

My bass patches have all been quite quiet because you have to turn the gain right down on the amp model. But I found this effect called Output Boost. Plus I added a 7-band eq and I’ve been able to get more clean volume on my bass patch. I still haven’t touched any of the global eq or volume controls. (I prefer to leave them flat and adjust for the venue).

The power supply that comes with it is no good. Very small and flimsy. But it works really well with my Rockboard Power LT (rechargeable pedal power).

Anyway, this thing is fun. Maybe more fun than the Pod Go. I always enjoy the flexibility of Zoom pedals. I’ll wait until the honeymoon phase is over to give my final verdict. I was not intending to gig this with bass but I might give it a go…

P.S. please Zoom, put some bass amps on this thing.

I recently started trying to use it for guitar and found it sounded pretty good. I'd like to get better at making it work. Do anyone still remember how to make it sing. As a New Bee I could use a little help. Got any videos to help? Contacted the company which was a lesson in how not to doit. They didn't seem interested because it is so old. Hey so am I. LOL

I've had my B1XFour for about a month now and have a couple of issues that I'm hoping to gain some advice on here...

1. During a heavy grunge metal jam session, my unit was jumping ahead a few pre-set patches by itself. I didn't actually see it happening, but noticed a change in sound, looked down and saw I was on a different patch. At first I thought I must have stepped on it by accident, but this happened several times through the course of the session, so I'm wondering if the vibration from the bass drum would be enough to cause this? Anyone else had this issue? Remedies?

2. On my recording set up, I'm using the B1XFour as a pre-amp before going into the interface. When using battery power only the unit is silent. When I plug in the power supply or the USB cable I'm getting a lot of noise...

Appreciate any pointers

No help on number one.

On number 2, yes. With a simple 9v power supply it’s noisy as heck. Mine doesn’t seem to fit with the right angle plugs that came with my Cioks DC7 but i have read that an ISOLATED power supply fixes the noise…
