The closest pedal I have personally tried that comes the closest to the Wooly is the Arger FX Capricorn or Capricorn Plus.

You could use a close value as there is tolerance to consider anyway, but a 4.99k shouldn't be hard to find. They are generally a metal film rather than carbon film.

Yes, I've never ever heard of a 4.99K resistor, I presume it's a measured value. I used 5.1K for mine.

Has anyone here tried the different schematics in the thread over at freestompboxes.com? Just wondering if any of you had a preference for one of the ones they posted.

Soon as I get paid for house sitting, I am going to make one of these. But I'm going to change out the pinch pot for a trimpot, and wire the wool pot in the side of the enclosure so I can adjust it with my foot.

Cause I mean, really, how often do you adjust things like a noise gate?

It's nice for synthy stuff. I've never used/needed a trim pot with silicon transistors. Moving the wool pot would be handy though.
