I did gigs for Congress and the Dali Lama where I had to get secret service clearance and between those two gigs the alert was way higher for the Dali Lama.
Was flown the with the artist I worked for up from San Diego to Seattle to play one song at a campaign rally and back again.

All the issues with fixtures and workholding are similar with a CNC router. Blocks of wood need to be clamped down solidly, in a repeatable position, with clearance for the cutter to do its job. It takes some thinking and planning.

I've had one on my bench for about a year, trying to get it to work the way I want.

It works absolutely perfectly with the AUX board, and the temp-wiring described in the manual, so I'm sure it CAN work, but as soon as I tried to wire it up with toggle switches like a jaguar or jazzmaster on the upper-horn of the bass I'm experimenting with, it's a nightmare. I'm truly on the edge of giving up, and I've got 20 years of successfully doing all sorts of other mods and pickup swaps and electronics installations in my own instruments. This thing is fast approaching more trouble than the time is worth, especially when I have a Digitech FreqOut on my board doing virtually the same thing with no effort whatsoever.

To be clear and perhaps more helpful to the OP, my bass has only a Q-Tuner in the bridge, no other pickups, so the distance issue is not a problem. The bass has an awesome Underhill Filter preamp, and before trying to get the Sustainiac to install, this thing was a monster. I'm very tempted to give up and sell the Sustainiac parts off and just keep playing it without.

Sounds correct - lots of new ideas happened in those transitional years after employees bought Fender back from CBS. I've seen the Fender Urge in that colour from the same time.

Made a lot of progress in the last couple of days. Got the pu platform dialed, painted (matte black), rounded over the E & G outside edges for bowing access and installed tiny rare-earth magnets in its base. Went back to longer rails (7-3/4") and imbedded the same (9) magnets in each rail/guide. I had some very thin flamed mahogany veneer and attached it to the rails. So far so good -


I was concerned the magnets wouldn't hold the pu unit (a bit heavy) but it does it very well. I can move it to 6 positions from neck-heel to bridge. Plenty of options for dialing. Wires are coiled out of the way for now - not going to be the end result.

The thin veneer covers the magnets but still grabs the magnetic pull. I had to order some copper tape so for now I'm sealing the veneer. So far so good.

That pickguard on the Silver Burst looks amazing.

I've grown to love the Bass Extenders. I'm looking to put them on a couple more of my regular players.

Installed the J bridge pup in the 60’s position today. So far I’m liking the sound… P pup 100% J pup 80% and tone about 50%, nice and punchy through my headphones playing along to some of my normal home practice songs. Thursdays gig will be the real test but overall I’m happy with the results and the routing installation went flawlessly..

BTW Allparts 70’s jazz neck, Django relic body, Hipshot and Res o lite hardware and of course Dimarzio Model pj pups.

Are you still using this combo? How'd you like it?

Hey just buy a nice squire cv as a backup, then get the Rick.
That way you won't feel as bad in 30 years that you kept both. The Rick and you have the one you really play everyday, and neither is going anywhere.

The tech could have easily determined the current screw hole depth vs. the length of the Babicz bridge screws and planned accordingly. Sounds like HIA (head in ass) syndrome.

It's awesome how music has been a constant thread throughout our lives. I've been playing in bands since 5th grade and I am still doing it today. Through careers, children, marriages, businesses, I have always been in a band. I sold my last business and retired a few years ago.... but, I leave for a month long tour in a couple weeks and I will probably be playing my bass until the very end. It's been a gift that is still giving.
