Thank you for sharing ,If that was a Skjoldslayer I would buy it right now and I’m not playing much five string there days! I always like looking at GCs used gear you never know what will show up.

A brief update. Further experimentation was delayed by string breakage and switching over to Spiros.

Interestingly, the effect of the transformer box is nowhere near as marked with the Spiros as it was with the Garbos. I surmise that the built-in EQ curve of the transformer better matched the somewhat mid-scooped tone and relatively brief sustain of the Garbos, and the much more mid-forward and longer sustain of the Spiros overwhelmed it. There is a slight tonal change, but not enough to warrant adding the additional box for something easily tweaked in the amp’s EQ. There was equally nothing worthwhile gained by using it in conjunction with the Fdeck or Fishman pres. I don’t have a Krivo or other DB magnetic pickup to try.

Fortunately, I bought this for BG use, in which setting it produced very obvious and positive effects. I couldn’t recommend it specifically for the purposes of better loading a piezo DB pickup outside of very specific and likely unpredictable circumstances.

Nothing ventured and all that, I suppose .

I found the 208 to be boomy with upright so I stuffed it with poly fiber filling and it sounds much tighter, and can go quite a bit louder. It sounds so good I bought another, and an Acoustic Image Clarus SL to push them to their fullest. Should handle any gig including the occasional electric or doubling gig and be very easy to manage.

I dunno if anyone around here wants a Tele, but Aaron at Warmoth posted a video on YT today showing their limited (only 5!) rosewood Tele bodies. Besides that they are beautiful and worth peeking at, part of the video shows them getting built in the Warmoth factory as a pancake chambered body. The factory footage is well worth watching.

Some of us work outside in this. It’s usually 5 degrees hotter inside the metal building. By my toolbox, I can feel myself baking off the back “wall”

About 6 months ago or so, I saw a guy named Stefan post about some basses he had been building on a FB group.

I liked the design and we started chatting. We quickly hit it off and became online friends (both teachers by day, both have children with some special needs, both bass nerds)…and he has been working on building me a bass that we worked out a barter for.

He likens himself to a mad scientist when he designs/builds, so I told him I would love to have something completely unlike anything else that I have...just wanted it to be medium scale, 5 string, and passive.

It’s been fun watching it come along from raw wood to where it’s at today. He sends me pics, videos, and voice messages daily.

It still has a ways to go (including adding another pickup)…but I’m really digging it so far.

32” scale
5 string
Alembic inspired thin neck with narrow nut and spacing
Linden (basswood) body with padauk top.
Maple neck with maple and cocobolo fretboard (mandolin frets)
Humbucker inbetween a divided split coil pickup. The split coil will be made by one of his friends who builds pickups on the side.
Passive with a varitone.

Here are some progress pics from along the way. Also pictured is a green 4 string of the same design that he’s been working on too.

I’ll share more pics and vids as it progresses.

With the AI Focus, I love the built-in variable high-pass filter, and I've used the second channel for vocals with, and without, reverb, delay, etc. I've even played with the built-in chorus with fretless. I love the power, 2-Ohm capability, light weight, and compact size. I hope someone else fills this niche.

Some of them have names and some don't.

My #1 - a heavily modded '69 Gibson EB-0 - is Grandma.

The matching '70 set comprising of a Les Paul Bass and a Les Paul Professional guitar would be something like "Chubby One" and "Chubby Two" if I were to translate their names in English...if you've ever held one of these for a NY minute you understand why...

A custom made one-off guitar which I own was named after a sadly demised friend of mine who had built it.

The rest of the collection is nameless.

Noah Count and Argus Tuft are two that were used when I was touring.

if only it moved to a chord based on G it would sound like resolution.

Going to try this on a gig soon.. I play with a didgeridoo player who has 2 didges one in Eb and one in C.. we play a kind of improvised ambient world music.. want to try this staring on Bb and resolving on the didges pedal.. I like to lay off the didges note and find different ways to resolve to it..

Yessir! I think for me too.

In other news, got a new to me Stingray Special today which has been a great addition to the family.

Only played with it through the D800+ today, but I played solid for 4 hours. What a beast! Next will be the BD800. I'm expecting to just barely survive the thunder.

I do wish there were a good tripod option for the SLB300. The endpin works, but I’ve found that the bass can rotate around it, which can be frustrating.

I have played mine on a K&M stand in practice situations, but for me it isn’t really practical for a gig. The angle of the bass isn’t quite right, and I find that the stand interferes with playing in the higher register.

I’ve also realized that I tend to stand a little too much behind the bass. The Yamaha seems to work better when you approach it more from the side, as in the photo Wasnex posted. I’m still working on getting used to that position.

The design really requires the shoulder of the bass to rest against your stomach, which helps stabilize it. I also have the optional shoulder attachment, and I find that it makes it easier to control the bass while playing on the endpin.

For me, I’ve actually found that it works best when I’m playing seated. I seem to have much better stability and control that way. I also use the knee attachment which is also an option.

If someone came up with a tripod, I would definitely be interested.

Austin guitars was a brand owner by Mackie/Ampeg/LOUD. It has also been defunct for over a decade.

I think I’m going to do that on my 4 string HH, but need to focus on doing the routing properly. Most likely going to do the $$ spacing like Warwick does. The neck pickup in the stock location is terrible, both for slapping and for sound, much too scooped and blah.

tried to post this yesterday but i cant find it IDK why so sorry if it's a double post.

got a scratched-up 2010 stiletto custom from local shop for $165. the back plate was missing and the electronics popping. i tried cleaning the pots and checking the wires but couldnt fix it.

bought a $25 Kaish preamp and put it in there to get it working so I could try and set it up. really happy with this as is does exactly what i needed = temporary use

created a janky back plate with a random piece of plastic

put a new set of daddario 105 flats that I use on my ibanez. the new set feels different than my other two sets like they are not polished

the frets on the bass were very worn so I did a level,crown and polish

setting it back up I really can’t get it dialed. The G is misbehaving and is requiring a higher action than I am used to and even when lifting it up more still buzzes on fret 8 and 11. I fear there isnt enough material left on the frets.

Put some labella tapewound 105’s on there and it’s a bit better with much less tension than the chromes but still buzzes on that G string

wish I could get it playing like my sr300. Ive got that thing set up but it has crap preamp - another long story

everyone loves the look of the Schecter and i hope i can get it playing with the low action i like but doubtful at this point
