Sadly, I've had two unsuccessful attempts to get my Blue Light WW back up and running, despite it being in near-mint cosmetic condition. Mario at Upscale Music spent months trying to repair it, and Advanced Electronics in Los Angeles also had it for months with no luck.

For now, I'm hanging onto it in the hope that one day someone finally cracks the code!

Also played the heck out of the steam demo for Order of the Sinking Star.

Easily one of the greatest games of all time with an amazing soundtrack. I fully agree with the popular consensus that this is a game I wish I i could play for the first time again.

Thanks. I love what your HPF/Pre did for double bass. I became a convert FOR LIFE when I bought an AI Focus with a built-in VHPF. Nowadays, I only consider amps with 'em built in.

I'm using 8s, and I use a HPF to "tune" my cab's output to the room. I love how the variable high-pass filter helps reduce apprehensions related to venue acoustics.

Even more often, I increase the bass while simultaneously increasing the HPF frequency. I find it helps provide the clarity I prefer on fretless, with a high-bass/low-mid push, instead of a deep bass push.

You're one of the stalwart TBers I've come to respect. Thanks for contributing in our sphere!

Reviving an old thread here, but I just picked up a CV 60's fretless and (recently having owned the same bass made in Corona) there's not much fit and finish difference...especially not a $600-700 difference in the prices I paid. The pickups and overall sound is much more punchy on the Squire and gets a better Jaco tone. I'm still likely going to put Bartolini 9J's and a bad ass bridge II just for the fun of it. Maybe this one is just exceptional, but by reading these forums, you would think they are garbage from some of the replies. NOT SO at all! (SIGNED: A former SX fan boy, still am but holy cow these CV's are so much better over all).

Lynn got me on them too. After a few months I put the Spirocores back on but put on a new set of Zyex lights last week and really like them. On my bass they are louder and just have more character, while retaining the sustain and clarity of Spirocores. Tension is about the same as the 3885 weichs, but the diameter is a bit larger and they feel better to me. For now, I have kept the Spirocore C ext string but the Zyex is half the price. If I’m still digging them in a few weeks I may try the low one too.

I think the part of Keef talking about the instrument moving around is a moot point, because I don't know about the rest of you, but I tend to keep my hands on my bass while I'm playing, which makes it incredibly convenient to move it wherever I want it. I don't position myself relative to the bass, I position the bass relative to myself.

And for what it's worth, I prefer wider straps. In my profile picture, you can see a DIY strap I did out of nylon webbing, 4" wide. I made them for my touring basses, fixed length, bolted to the body so no risk of them coming off either, and I always wore that jacket on stage, so it helped prevent it digging into my neck.

I just got a ME Modern 5 and while it is a great bass with great tone, I had to set it up myself and afterwards it plays great too. The roasted maple neck is great, I don't care about the frets. they are like every other bass I own.

Sorry, I can't comment on the problem you're having. What I can offer is I replaced the preamp on my Harley Benton/Palatino with the one in the picture. I really love how much better it sounds with this preamp. Tons better than stock. It was easy enough to install, only having to very slightly make the area it mounts a little bigger with hand tools. It also requires dual stack knobs. However, it does eliminate the headphone jack. You could, however, buy and use a headphone jack type amp that plugs into the output jack.

Honestly, it felt like I was playing a floppy twig. It sounded right! But man it felt awful to play.

Which surprised me because when I got this bass in particular I thought: "Aha! I found it! I am a Jazz Bass guy!' and it seems to perhaps not be the case...

That being said, I am very aware that it says "Squier" on the headstock. Squier have been great recently! But maybe the build quality of my Yamaha has just made me hyper-aware of the shortcomings of the Squier (Or maybe I bought a turkey and didn't realise it at the time )

ANYWAYS.

The fact that the Jazz Bass tone succeeded where the P\J did not has demonstrated that it is definitely worth having a Jazz Bass laying around. Also, Marcus Miller has probably the best bass tone on the planet (IMHO) so aside from the practical perspective, I definitely like having a Jazz bass around.

But since the Squier seems to be "not the right thing" (in hindsight), I am curious about other Jazz basses, and especially Jazz Bass alternatives. Basically I'm keen on basses which have 2 single coil pickups, but after that I'm open to suggestions.

So for giggles...

If the romance between me and my Jazz bass has gone, what are some other things I should consider?

Get a precision bass neck , put it in the squier. Thank me later .

So based on all the reports of people not being able to get their high G strings to sound strong with the bridge pickup, and how even with my aftermarket Hipshot bridge I had to shift all of the saddles as far towards the bass side as they’d go, I finally decided to remove the bridge entirely, find the center-line, and see if the bridge was drilled wrong.

As you can see in the photo, the holes are just slightly too far to the treble side. I suspect this was the case for almost every or every bass they made in this run. Really is a shame they couldn’t get something like this right.

Seems I’ll be plugging the existing holes and drilling new mounting holes. While I’m at it, I’ll probably drill holes to do string-thru.

I have an original early 1975, bought September that year.
Mint, all original never been apart.
No serial number, didn't come with a fitted case, just a hard shell case with yellow interior.
Definitely mahogany, weights a tonne.

I was told at the time it was one of three available in canada.
Further research said was one of a possible 43 or 47 made as promotional models.

That Yamaha Fife is in the Key of "C" (like Flute & Piccolo) and has over two full octaves of Chromatic Scale. Music is written in Treble, but "Middle C" (on paper) is "Treble C" in pitch. It has Flute/Piccolo "mouthpiece" molded-in (slip-joint can be rotated to your preference).
