Here are mine.

Please tell why you like them and why some of you dumped them.

I like them because it's a passive bass, it's a Fender, and they have lot's of different tonal settings. The ones I have weigh ten pounds each, and it took a while to get all four colors. I use the shoreline gold the most because the neck is thinner than the others. All of the necks are a little bit different.

BTW, bassmanreg...nice collection, especially the shoreline gold/tort! Are those from differing years? I heard that a few things changed after I bought mine in '98 (different bridge, perhaps).

I know what you are saying about the necks being different. People talk about the necks being asymmetric, but I really don't sense that from mine. Perhaps it is only slightly asymmetric.

The 2005 year bass does have a wierd shaped asymmetric cut, but the others are really not. The shoreline gold and the teal have a regular oval neck and the sunburst have sort of a baseball bat type. I have changed the pickguard on the sunburst and it looks just like yours.

Nice to finally see a RB sig thread again! I don't have a photo on me right now, but here's a little sound clip:

It's in Teal green metallic. I bought it while I was working in Asia as a bass player. I've contemplated on selling it and buying another bass thousands of times, but now I'm finally coming to my senses. These basses just flat-out sound great, and the clip might be a bad representation of its great recording sound because of the effects.

Best I can do for now without including all my non-Fenders.

Note: according to serial numbers, both RB5's were made in 1997. Both have slightly flamed maple necks, which feel the same. However even when freshly strung with identical string sets and played unplugged, these basses sound noticeably different: the gold one is brighter to the ear as well as to the eye.

Seems like a huge waste of money to me. 4 of the same basses in different colors...big deal if the necks are a little bit different, that's $3,000+ wasted.

Thanks for showing your love for these basses with ypur pictures. The only downside for me is sometimes my bass won't stay in tune. I think it might be the type of strings. I use those D Addario EXL 170-5's. It might be something else though.

3NotesAbar: I was surfing for a red bass just like yours but nothing came up at the time I was ready to get mine. What year is your bass?


I would still like to know why some of you have gotten rid of your bass.

Not to me. It really is not much different than having several basses of what ever you have, only I have several of the same.

Really it started out like this. I got the first bass for a good price from a guy in my town, and not long afterwards I got the another one at this pawnshop that I would use as a back up, and then one day I saw one on ebay, I bid, I won. Well , if you have three RB5's in the three different colors, why not get the forth. Now, during this time period I had, Zon's, Spector's, Pedulla's, R Bass, Alembic, MusicMan, Fender Jazz and Precisions, G&L's, and lot's of others that were really cool, but I decided to just do Roscoe Becks.

I tried looking up the Fender site to date my bass but came up with nothing concrete. SN6945940. Should be a 96' though.

I used to own a 97 in teal green that sounded fantastic but got rid of it cause i was a big warwick freak and traded it for a Thumb BO, i liked the warwick but always missed the Roscoe Beck's fat bottom and playability. The only problem with that bass was a really ugly dead spot at the seventh fret of the G string, and at the 12th fret of the D string, (harmonics and all!).:eyebrow:
Then one year ago i had a 2003 in sunburst and that was another story:( . As much as i tryed to adjust the bass i could never get it the way i wanted it, something was wrong with the neck joint and the neck never seated right on the pocket, in consecuence the tone suffered and sold it to purchase my SR 5 HH.;)
Oh... and to a lesser degree this bass also had a dead spot at the 7th fret of the G string.:rollno:
