For Drone and Doom Metal?

Hi, new user here! First let me lay down my set-up.
-Ibanez GSR100EX Sound Gear
-Behringer 1x8 20watt practice amp (for now)
I just started playing bass about 2 weeks ago, ever since i heard sunn0))) live. I want my sound to be a droning, doom filled ambiance type style.

Please help me to understand which effects and pedals i should invest in.

I also enjoy 60's-80's rock (Blue Oyster Cult, REO Speedwagon), what do i need to do for that style?

I mainly focus on metal though, all forms but specifically drone/doom/funeral.

Now that you have been informed the YOU NEED A FUZZ! You will notice that there are many fuzzes....

Many....

For Doom standard kit is a type of Big Muff Pi. There are 100s of threads on Muff variants. And many opinions, all I will say on this here is stay away from the Bass Big Muff [I don't like how it sounds] and a NYC as it's lows arn't as boomy as one would want for everything.

Now My suggestion:FuzzHugger(fx) Great Wall, it is SO doomy and chewy and BIG and FUZZY!

i know you said pedals, but really you need a good amp with tubes. i like tube preamp w/ solid state poweramp, but i play other music as well... straight up doom/stoner players usually use all tube heads- ampeg svt's, sunn, orange, etc.

fuzz(EHX BBM), chorus(Danelectro, Boss), delay(guyatone, boss, MXR), OD(digitech, boss), phaser(mxr, ehx), octave(boss), and flanger(boss).

old grindy solid state heads(peavey, kustom, sunn, acoustic).

15" speakers for days(i see craigslist bros selling 2x15s for less than $150 all. the. time).

My friend runs 8 15s in his doom band(Oak), and i have yet to see/hear a better doom/drone bass set up.

Personally, I would also do 15's, but also dig 12's and 18's

i can't think of a genre that is MORE played out than doom/drone

...

do i really need to type the words indie, emo, and hardcore/deathcore?

at least he's obviously doing it because he wants to, not because he'll be famous.other than Sunn, can you think of 1 famous doom band?

and...are you being hypocritical or do you just not want other people to play the same music as you? Seeing how as you list not 1 but 2 doom/ambient/black metal bands for your current gigs

"beyond played out."

There's a very small glass ceiling to this, especially when you get into amplifier worship, and even moreso when you get into the camps that break it down to "post-Stoner-Pre-Ambien-Slightly-Saddened-Dreading-Doom."
Beyond a small handful of bands, its just a bunch of dudes hitting powerchords at 12 BPM.

forgive ignorance...but outside of the boris album i've never heard of amplifier worship...but if it means what i think it means, i will gladly join the kult

Amplifier Worship is my shorthand for Amps at 11.

I just checked out your profile... you're 18. Odds are, you just got into this kind of music pretty recently. The new wave of Sleep/Boris/EW/Sunn adoration has done nothing but make the cheap amps that sound awesome at 11 get more expensive.

FWIW: I still have my Doom rig, and I'll always love the music, but at this point its been a real long time since a band made me go "Wow."
