Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Good luck man. I have found 1 guitar player and zero drummers. I've done CL and Facebook group ads, so far no luck. I'm old so I'm not near a campus, you may have an advantage there. It almost makes me want to quit and switch to drums. But I'm not THAT desperate. :D

I tried an Epi Thunderbird at GC tonight and it was a complete mess. It must have been on the wall for a decade untouched. :( I'm going to try and find another that hasn't been so neglected to really see what I think of them. I played the new Fender American Ultra PJ and holy crap was it...

Any other make/models you'd suggest I look at that would fit the genre? Maybe an Epi SG?

Yeah my current bass is an Ibanez SR300, which is a reverse PJ. I was really just wanting to see what the hype around the P bass was, and a black P bass does kinda say "doom" to me. (Yes I know his is a Lakland :) )

Nah, I am in MPLS, there are 4 GCs, 2 Music Go Rounds, and other mom and pop stores. I just wanted to find a cheap-ish P bass to learn to work on and try out the famous P bass sound.

That was my thought process when I passed on it. I want to learn to work on my bass, but I'm not experienced enough to know if I just bought a trainwreck.

Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

So went to check out a Squier P to turn into my BEAD doom bass. It was in meh condition cosmetically, but the thing that worried me was the action was about 2 miles high. I attempted to play it and it was extremely difficult. The neck had relief in it, but the action was just super high. At...

    Questions on learning a song

Thank you all for the advice. I've gotten the song "working" over the last few days, in the sense that I know all of the lines/fills and can insert them into spots where they fit. While I cannot play it exactly as recorded on Dirt, I can play a version that would go over well live, even if not...

Someone posted a CL ad. Singer/songwriter who likes Windhand, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, and others looking to start a band. I responded with a quickness lol.

    Questions on learning a song

I'm working on a song that is slow tempo and has no difficult technical parts. The transcription I have seems to be good, and seems to line up to what I can make out from the recording. The problem I am having is memorizing each little section. The bass line seems to have a few "themes" that...

I can't find anyone around here that wants to play doom. I've found death metal, shoegaze, americana, bluegrass, southern rock (in MN, lol). I've got a project bass lined up (Squier P) that I want to put flats on and tune BEAD. I just need people to play it with lol.
