Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Sold some stuff and got paid via PayPal. Never done that before. The payment is “on hold”. Is that normal? How long does that last? It said that it would be on hold until 24 hours after delivery, which should be sometime today. Just a bit freaked out, as I hope it’s not some sort of scam or something. Probably nothing, just my first time receiving payment via PayPal and am not sure what normal is.
I think PayPal only does that the first time you use it.

Cool. Whatever the case, I got an email a few hours ago saying my money is cleared. So, now for more GAS!

I have to decide if I want more HM-2 clones or to wait and maybe get another bass (or even guitar). Thinking of maybe a decent 5 string P/J, something Ibanez-ish. That or something pointy.

Sometimes something pointy is whats needed.

Having just picked up a Throat Locust I quite like, I say rack up more HM2 goodness. You can never have too many!

I can't find anyone around here that wants to play doom. I've found death metal, shoegaze, americana, bluegrass, southern rock (in MN, lol). I've got a project bass lined up (Squier P) that I want to put flats on and tune BEAD. I just need people to play it with lol.

Lol I'm having the same problem but it's with people to listen with! Everyone who smokes down here would rather listen to rap all the time, minus my one friend who introduced me to doom (but even he's more into other things). I like rap just fine, I just need some variety... and someone to share my doom with!

Not even a year as a converted doom fan and I'm really starting to understand the plight of metal musicians. Regardless of how well written or thought out or just plain good the music is, it'll always be written off by most people simply because it's metal.

Have this problem too. Even if I find a drummer any guitarists will be hair metal. Going to play around with my 8 string and see if I can come up with some guitarist-less stuff.

My 57 and 58's came about the same way, I got the 57 used and my buddy gifted me the 58's as the mesuem he works at was upgrading and they had a ton laying around I guess. Maybe if i keep doing this i'll pick up a proper kick mic... Hopefully I can get it a bit more dialed in for our next practice session.
Downside is they keep wanting to get me to sing which is pretty terrifying in its own right, and, well, I'm not any good at it. But who knows, we'll see. I've started working on some backing stuff for a couple tracks and thats tough enough as it is... :|

On another topic, staying sober is hard as hell but it can be worth it. I'm 2.5 years into it and while my mental health is still a flaming dumpster fire, its at least more manageable and I'm generally more stable. It sucks but its worth it. Coffee is pretty much the only vice these days, its been keeping me sane at work lately so thats a good thing at least.

I was clean and sober for 13 years. I'd had hankerings for a beer for a few weeks, so I told my wife I was going to crack the dam. Currently, I'm on a 2 beer (because I dring craft stouts 90% of the time), or 2 glasses of wine limit. I've found that it's the perfect amount to add a bit of the enjoyable fuzz around the edges, but not near enough to get me into trouble.

When I went cold sober, I did it with a simple decision, I decided it wasn't doing right for me, and I stopped. Being in a much better headspace than my first marriage (all my fault, being totally honest) made it immensely easier.

I applaud your sense of purpose with this.

see if I can come up with some guitarist-less stuff.

I am doing this right now. Taking a break from bands and/or looking for a band. Is good. Making guitar-less jams that are developing at glacial speeds, but they are turning out really good. I posted one a few pages back, and have about 3 more in progress.

Is your band an "Om" type thing with just a Bassist and Drummer?
Yes we are a bass and drums duo but we don't resemble Om as for the genre... I'm not even sure what the genre is, my intention was to make math rock but our limited skill is not very math rock :bag:
I'd say we have math, post-metal and post-punk elements mixed up together. But it's simple stuff, quite naive. :bag:

anywhere I can listen to you guys?
We haven't releases anything yet... I'm about to buy my first "basic" recording gear (and I have yet to learn how to use it), we wanted to make a "proper" demo in the next months... I could share an "unofficial" audio that will self-destruct in a short time tho. :ninja::ninja::ninja:
