I'm currently on the fence about going this year.
Yeah, had a few questions bouncing around my head since I snagged my ticket and other "amenities" online. I haven't been to the Tetons. So, I'll likely go out a day or two early to do some trail running in the area. It's a trip I'm looking forward to for the location as much as the music.
Do you remember if the on-site camping area is relatively close to where they have everyone park? Just wondering if it's more car camping or if you hoof it relatively far into the ranch to set up camp?
As far as bringing coolers, I know I'll be responsible for my own food, jetboil stove, etc. Do they actually search your car, or is it possible to bring in a case of beer or something else so I'm not entirely reliant on buying their drinks?
I'm rolling solo, because I feel like I can always use a re-charge in the mountains. It's a nice chance to listen to music, explore the surrounding area, meditate, and generally cut myself off from any non-amplifier technology. So I'm also curious how early the music started each day? Hoping I can get plenty of solo time in the mornings to recharge, run, etc. before I start shooting the breeze with people and watching bands...

Ha! My brother and SIL lived right across the highway from there. My brother spent a few winters doing dogsled tours in that area, but that's been 20 years. I haven't spent any time in that area in 10-12 years, so I have no idea what it's like anymore.

some people say Prosteels are brighter than Lo-Riders. Anyone tried both? For me, the brighter the better, so I may save those 35€ and stick with Prosteels if what I read is true (although in some YT demos lo-riders seem brighter, but that doesn't mean much)
Unfortunately the Italian customer support does not replace strings directly. You have to send the broken string to the American Ernie Ball offices so they can verify if it was defective and if so, they'll send you a replacement (translated from the FAQ section in the Italian Ernie Ball website)
Yeah, sure. Rather than spending 30-40€ to ship them to the USA, I go and buy a set of Lo-riders for the same price
That's a real bummer. Sucks an authorized dealer wouldn't just give you another pack. Don't blame ya one bit for looking elsewhere.
Not sure how bad shipping from Italy is, but I just shipped a pedal to Poland for $27. I'm sure a flat envelope would be much less than that. I get it though, once burned I'd be hesitant to spend any more money on em.
If the prosteels are just about as bright I'd go with them and keep a fresh set of lo riders for recording. Unless prosteels just don't get the sound you want.
So the guitarist put together a clip to use to promote on n social media but I wanted to share it here as well. This one in particular is very High On Fire, but the whole album, once we're done, will have a bit of sludge, thrash, doom, and stoner all rolled into what will probably be an EP.

A small package (envelope size) costs about 10€ to be shipped in Italy. About double to Europe... I never shipped to the USA but I expect the shipping cost to exceed the value of the strings themselves.
Anyways, what about tapered strings? Any experience with them?
A long ago when I started learning bass I bought one set by mistake and I found them too bright, but now in the band I prefer a brighter tone because it's what actually works for the songs.

I usually use a heavier gauge (55-110) but these ones could work for me because the E string is only a little lighter (I don't expect to have a great difference between a 107 and a 110) and the other ones are in standard tuning. I dunno. The price is good as well

Never tried tapered strings that I know of. What I've read is you get increased clarity, maybe the brightness cuts more.
Lo riders are pretty bright, surprisingly so imo. I stopped using them because I wanted to try round core strings (lo riders are hex core) and because I wanted more midrange emphasis. I have DR DDRs on my BEAD bass though (hex cores, similar sounding to lo riders) and it sounds awesome, hence my reconsidering lo riders. I wouldn’t call them scooped exactly, but they add a certain brilliance to the top and bottom of your sound.

Slick setup, do you find you mostly use the smaller board for just practice?
I'm hoping to expand my board, but I don't know if I wanna lug it around for every practice too. Been toying with the idea of a stripped down board for limiting the haul for practices and hired gun stuff.
in theory its for when i'm too lazy to haul the big board out, which turns out to be most of the time.
i'm thinking of downsizing a bit from the PT Pro to make it more practical.
Cool I'll have to see what kinda stuff the millwrights will let me mess with. That was my fear of letting it get too big and also having a smaller one.
It's too hard to keep a board small, I get why people go with helix, etc. Not my cup o tea though.
In other news, had an awesome accident today.
Backstory: I've met and chatted with Rob and some of his staff numerous times at various conventions and such. Anyway real class act and I love his pedals despite only ever borrowing or demoing them. Never had the cash at the right time.
Last week I ordered an Eccos pin from Keeley's shop. A mere $13 shipped. Worthwhile from a small business like those guys. I'm a pedal nerd, what can I say. So I get home today and see a big ole package on the counter and thought what duh f did I buy?
I check the address and thought it was odd, but when I picked it up I knew there was a pedal in there. Popped her open and voila!
Honest mixup on their end, but I had a feeling I had to do the right thing. Checked the invoice and my pay statement which confirmed the mix up. Called up their shop, which does go straight to the shop floor. Talked with Lisa and gave em the story. They gave me the option to ship it back on their dime or buy it at a discount. Couldn't say no to the discount (insane deal), I'd never have that opportunity again. Only read through the manual, but I'd been eyeing this one. Totally rad idea, pumped to try it out.
Now I'm full blown back into being a pedal whore...oh well totally worth it. I think it's pedal #4 this month and I've flipped another 7, with 1 more on the way...
Guess what I was saying outta that is their pedals are awesome, especially the multi fx ones. That and they're such good people to deal with.
