"This Old P"....add your bass and your story

This was my first "real" bass. Picked it up in 1973 from a fellow bass player at high school who wanted to buy a Rick. Neither he or I really knew how old the bass was. It wasn't until I had it setup some years later that I found out I had purchased a 1959 PBass for $200! She's pretty...

Best deal you ever got on a bass/amp/anything?

    Let's see 1973 - one beat-up 1959 PBass for $200. 1980 - 1978 Burgundyglo Ric 4001 for $400.

    It's a Keeper!

My new Tribby L2K (Blueburst w/Maple fretboard) arrived Friday. My first impression on opening the box was "This is a really nice gig bag for an import bass". What was inside the bag wasn't too bad either. No flaws in both workmanship and finsh. Beautiful wood grain on the neck and body...

Your story:Killer deals on used/vintage basses

Back in '73 I paid $200 for what both the seller and I thought was beat-up 1965 Fender Precision. When I had it setup about a year later I found out it was actually an original '59. It still gets most of the gigging time today.

How long have you owned you main player ?

    1959 Precision, since 1973.

What bass do you reach for the most in your family?

It depends on the gig. If it's jazz I go with a Squier VM Frettless Jazz. For Rock or country my '59 PBass gets the pick.

Gigging vintage basses; Sinner or Saint?

Vintage Basses? Play em! In my own case 3 of my basses qualify for vintage status, an '86 Ibby RB885, a '78 Ric 4001 and a '59 Fender PBass. All get played out on a regular basis. The Pbass gets played out the most. In fact it's been on every gig I've ever done since I got it in 1973. That...

    Official Markbass Club

Is anyone using the Mini 121P with an extension cab? I've been using an Avatar SB112 Neo with good results. it'll be getting a good work out this Saturday. Two auditions in one day! A jazzy kind of funk/rock band and a classic rock/blues band.

    P-Bass Club

The '59 was that color when I bought it in 1973. I don't know if you can tell from the picture but there are quite a few scars and dings on it. It's been around the block two or three times. I don't think it was treated all that will by its former owners and was given a quick and dirty home...

My VM Fretless. A big thumbs up to Squier on the Vintage Modified Series. I've been trying to fight the need for the VM Jazz and I think I am losing.:)
