    Things bassist hate.

Cost of strings? Yes, they're expensive compared to guitar strings. But when you consider that a 105 has as much metal in it as a whole pack of guitar strings, and the average bassist does not break strings, and that bass strings last much longer than the spider web-like strings for guitar...

    Warn others...

So it's in between sets and some yahoo is blabbing at the drummer and has conveniently placed his full pint glass on top of my amp. With joviality and brightness I ask him, "Is that my beer?" When he tells me no I change to a demeanor of aggression and malace and ask him, "Is that your amp?!"...

    Help me I.D. this bass!

I don't know anything about it but it looks like a good, solid instrument. Those pickups look nice and meaty. I also like the tuners facing down. If it plays well and sounds good... you win!

What was your first bass guitar?

'83 P. Was playing guitar at the time and loaned the bass to my bassist, along with amp. After a year I pressed him to find his own. He shopped and couldn't find anything he liked better so I reluctantly sold it to him for a good deal. Kept the band together and everyone was basically happy...

I'm coming up on my 5th year of playing bass...

You're only 14?! How could you even hold a bass at nine? Don't beat yourself up little brother; give yourself some time. You're just entering the phase of your body's life where you will be growing, both physically and mentally, at an exponential rate. Keep at it and it WILL get easier and...

    What is it?

Got this back in '96 in a pawn shop in Jacksonville Florida. I think it's a Silvertone made by Danelectro. Mid-sixties? Does anyone have any conclusive information on this? It's got a neat tone; sounds like a hollowbody even though it's solid. 3/4 scale. Used it once in the studio on a...

Candidadtes for a 2nd bass. Advice needed.

Look in Craigslist for a G&L. You should be able to find one for around 5-6 and it's going to be far better and more rewarding than any of those cheaper instruments. For a couple of hundred dollars you will jump up into the pro instrument range and you will love it. You deserve it!

Bassists who are lefties who play righty club.

Write, fork, brush teeth, all lefty. Fortunately I play right handed. I say fortunately because there are so many more right handed guitars available. My guess is that when my T-ball coach made me bat righty at age 6 he changed my life for the better. 16 years later when I took up playing...

The Official Fender Precision Bass Club (Part 3)

Not the best pics of my wonderful '72. I've played the thing since I acquired it back in '94 doing everything from punk to fusion jazz but mostly rock. I modified the pick guard myself with gold, orange and copper colored glitter and a water-based varnish. I love this bass!

    G&L: A Question of Sacriledge

Well, I voted no but it's your call. I bought a G&L SB2 from someone who had replaced the pickups with Bertolinis. Tried it out on a little practice amp and took it home. When I ran it through my big rig I realized that the pickups were really thin sounding. The bass sounds weak compared to...
