Did You Stop Gigging for a While and How Long?

Involuntary hiatus for about 8 years. The bands I'd been with for decades finally faded out. Three kids with a slate full of activities didn't really leave much time for things like putting a new band together. Hit the empty nest stage, got a phone call from a working band needing a bassist and...

    Do you sub?

Very rarely these days, but I usually enjoy it when I get the opportunity. But that's probably because I only take the gig if I think it's a good fit for both parties.

    Free gigs

If it's a benefit for a good cause, absolutely. Any other case it's a firm no.

What's the longest you've ever been in the same band?

Nearly 30 years. Can't pinpoint an end date because we never really disbanded, just sort of stopped gigging due to age and health issues (I'm 61 and was the "baby" of the band). The last few years were sporadic, but we had a really solid 20+ year run.

I will never gig without a backup ever again...

Hate that happened to you. Stories like these have made me a believer in having a backup axe and amp. All it takes is one bad solder joint or tuner and you're screwed.

Band plays too much? Never thought that would bother me, but..

Ha, I kinda feel that way now. Lots of out of town gigs, played one out of state thing 4 hrs away last weekend, have another next weekend. But they pay good. And I went for years without playing so too much beats too little for me. If these were $100 a head shows I'd probably feel differently.

    Would you take this gig?

Just based on the set list, yep.

I'm a little miffed about my Sweetwater order

I'm a special customer. They always send me tootsie rolls. And Bit-O-Honey.

    Rolling Stones...New Album in October

I sometimes struggle with gigging at 62. Can't imagine doing it a 80, especially at that level. Good for them!

75 year old bass gigging virgin who is SOOO confused. Please be gentle.

Whatever amp you go with, kudos to you for diving in at 75! Bravo.

I know we all joke about our Sweetwater engineers…

Ryan Clapper is my rep. Best customer service anywhere, in my experience.

    Gretsch Junior Jet review

I've been gigging mine more and more since developing arthritis in middle finger of right hand. Had to switch to pick and the string spacing makes it so much easier for me to play with a pick. Anyway, we had a guy sit in on bass this weekend and I got to really listen to this thing in the room...

    Poll: Did your BAM200 fry?

I've had mine for over a year now. Bought it as an "always in the gig bag" backup but have wound up using it quite a bit on small gigs lately. Used it for an outdoor gig on the 4th and had to push the heck out of it, the little guy held up fine. Not crazy about the tone but it takes my VT pedals...

    Wagon Wheel

It's on our playlist. I didn't put it there, I assure you. Not a bad song, just overplayed / overcovered.
