Gretsch Junior Jet review

LOL sometimes I forget that I actually said something and think I just thought about saying it
Got my Gretsch Junior Jet in pink and after adding hipshot tuners, kickass bridge and LaBella Flats...plays really nice
I understand the pickup issues and that may not be a deal killer for me.
My questions for those who own one are:
Does it play well?
Does the neck feel tiny?
Is the hum that bad or workable (thinking noise gate)?
Would you buy it again or feel disappointed?

Disclaimer first: I'm a guitarist that recently started learning bass.
- I think it plays well, but see disclaimer. Frets are level, neck is straight, and the nut seems to be cut well enough. I had to do some minor setup, but that's normal. There were no issues setting it up, although I didn't try for really low action. I did need to tap down a couple of frets that were slightly high.
- The neck doesn't feel tiny to me, and I don't care for tiny necks. YMMV. The neck's a bit smaller than my Reverend PJ. It's hard to describe without measurements, which I don't have handy.
- The hum doesn't seem bad, perhaps comparable to a typical Tele, Strat, etc. I haven't bothered to shield it, but I don't perform or record with it. I've certainly heard noisier single-coils.
- Not disappointed. I like mine, including the pickups — no plans to change them. The G2220 is a nice counterpoint to my PJ. And it's such a cute little thing.
I'm also a guitarist who got a G2220 to learn on and to use in recording. I love it. Feels great in hand, very playable, no set up issues. I play pretty quietly, but in my old house with old circuitry, even around the computer etc, I haven't noticed any single coil noise at all.
I’ve had my Jr Jet for over a year. I like it a lot, but I like short scales.
It plays well. I swapped the rounds for flats and I love the sound.
The neck does not feel tiny. The neck on the Jaguar ss is much tinier,
I’ve had no hum from the pups, but I have a new house with wiring up to code.
I would def buy again. I love the 2220 and use it a lot. It’s not a toy. It’s not a beginner bass. It’s the real deal.

I’ve had my G2220 for 7 years. It is one of my favorite basses that goes on every gig with me. I’ve never had a noise issue. They are fantastic basses and worth way more than they are priced at IMHO.
Mine plays very well. Nice neck, feels great, sets up nicely, no issues. The single coil pickups are a little noisy but no worse than any of my jazz basses, so I'm used to that. I am hoping to put some different strings on mine soon; the stock rounds are not making my hands happy. That's about the only issue I have and it's easily fixed.
I just bought the Gretsch Junior Jet, the only short scale I could find in Panama. I’ve been playing an Ibanez Mikro for a little over a year with upgraded pickups but this Gretsch feels like it’s well constructed. I haven’t even gotten it home yet but what are the stock strings? It says 40-95 on the website, they do feel light, coloring scheme possibly D’addario? I want to our on at least mediums, probably Ernie Ball just curious. I have a show next Saturday so hope I can get comfortable with it by then
If anyone is looking for one of these I have a G2202 - the original version with the single TV Jones mini-Humbucker. I’ve changed it to all gold hardware including a custom made gold pickguard.
I’m the second owner and just don’t play it enough to keep it. It’s strung with D’Addario black nylon tapewounds. Nice low action. Couple of scratches on back and some ripples/dimples in finish on front. Send me a PM if interested. I can ship in CONUS for $65.
Yep. The strings that came on mine were nominally were 40-95, color-coded, and no silks. They were overly bright for my tastes and seemed in no hurry to break in and lose some of that. I swapped them out for GHS Balanced Nickles (44-106). Been playing those for 18 months and like them. Being new to bass, I didn't even notice that the new strings were heavier than stock. They still seem relatively light, but I'm used to medium rounds on my 34" PJ.
My backup set on my Mikro are too short I’ll have to wait for new ones to change.

I've been gigging mine more and more since developing arthritis in middle finger of right hand. Had to switch to pick and the string spacing makes it so much easier for me to play with a pick. Anyway, we had a guy sit in on bass this weekend and I got to really listen to this thing in the room. Holy cow, this thing puts out a solid bottom! That was the first time I've been able to sit back and listen to it from an audience POV. Definitely the best $300 I ever spent on bass gear.
Anyone know if they are now putting in properly wound neck and bridge pickups so the hum cancels when both are on? I love single coils but they need to be configured properly.

Can you share what bridge from Hipshot? There are quite a few choices. Is it in any of the pictures that you shared?
Has anyone looked to replace the pick-ups? Any idea who makes the correct sized replacement? Seems like an odd shape HB.
