More subjective quality variation in cabs than amps?

Audio engineers, audiophiles, audio nerds … basically anyone heavily involved in sound reproduction as either a profession or a serious hobby …will all tell you that transducers make a significantly greater impact on the sound of a system than any electronics. That’s just the nature of the beast.

Bassists who play "modern" basses in rootsy contexts.

Are you saying your employers have actually expressed a preference on what instrument you play based on its appearance?!?! Or is this just a hypothetical, or something you’re sensing rather than hearing explicitly stated? Gotta admit, it’s been >40 years since any bandleader even commented on...

    U.S. Peavey Club

fwiw I stopped by 30th Street Guitars in NYC this morning, and they had a mint-condition 1980 Peavey T-40 on the wall. Gorgeous specimen, looked just like the two I bought new (in ‘80 and ‘81). Only difference was, I paid $300 each for my T-40s; they’re asking $1,150 for this one!

Mini Documentary on The System, a killer Synthesizer Duo

He’s one of the first names I cite whenever someone asks “Who’s your favorite bass player that doesn’t play the bass?”

How far is too far, how long is too long?

Your American friends are nuts. I almost wrote “you couldn’t pay me to drive 1 - 2 hours for a dive bar gig or jam night” …but that’s not true: You *could* pay me for that kind of travel time, but it would cost way more than anyone typically makes doing dive bar gigs or jam night sessions. I’m...

How did I miss that?!?! Any pics of the front? Is that a neck-thru, or glued-in neck?

    Why are older basses "coveted"???

Captain Pedantic wants to point out that, absent impact or stress, plastic doesn’t “disintegrate” appreciably over the lifetime of most electric guitars/basses. It may crack, warp, and/or discolor, but unless it is subject to abuse it will be hundreds of years before it begins to decompose.

    Ambient and regenerative pedalboards

How easy is it to switch back and forth between different firmware types? I’m still only using the original “Drifting” loop firmware.

    Big gig rained out!! 😞

Anyone ever had their gig *snowed* out? Or …since I just watched Stage 3 of the Vuelta a Espana bike race …ever had a gig hailed out? Weather is no joke!

Warmoth Builders- what are you using for long shaft pots?

Yep, ^^^that’s precisely what I did on my Warmoth body …and by “precisely” I mean…not very :)

    Ambient and regenerative pedalboards

I have definitely found that you need to “play” the Cosmos proactively, intentionally, and continually in order to prevent it from turning everything into a slightly predictable default soup. In other words, it’s not enough to simply turn it on and let it run; you need to engage with all of the...
