Teaching - How long to work through Friedland book?

About how long should it take to work through the first Hal Leonard bass method book by Ed Friedland? Background: I want to teach my girlfriend bass and read good things about the Friedland book. The first book is 48 pages and the first ~10 pages are about positioning, musical concepts, etc...

    World's Highest-Paid Musicians 2013

Tom Petty probably makes 80% of the 15% though.

    A common (pointless) theme here

I didn't read the whole thread - But I get really tired of this kind of thing on Youtube. Literally every song I visit on YT, probably 85% of the comments are like this.

Do you own Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon?

Pink Floyd, to me, is the truly the definition of 'overrated.' They are revered as music icons, and I have never understood why. They are responsible for some of the most bland, forgettable, lifeless music to receive consistent radio airplay. Just my opinion, of course!

    Best Modern Rock Bassist?

'Modern rock,' but most of these guys became famous 20+ years ago, and many haven't been relevant since.

WHy is so much tab wrong?

ASCII tabs are usually awful. The tabs for programs like Powertab and Guitar pro are much higher quality. Maybe because people listen back to what they've transcribed and realize their mistakes? No lie, using those programs to transcribe made me much, much better at reading music.

Ever hate a song so much you'd risk being fired?

    I can't relate. It's just a song. Even if you don't like it...I mean...it's still only a song.

"Behind Blue Eyes" bass demo. I'll miss the Ox

That was pretty good. I watched your 'Don't Let Me Down' video also. That's one of my favorite Beatles bass lines. Here's a request/suggestion -- How about 'Living In The Past' by Jethro Tull? I think you have the right kind of big, fat tone for it.

Does Geezer Butler have the blueprint for doom/stoner metal bass tone?

Be sure to pluck the notes up by the neck (or on the neck and fretboard,) not down by the bridge. That's a big part of his sound.

    Paz Lenchantin

Boy, I'm bumping an oooold thread. I hope that's okay. Paz is probably the best female bass player I have heard -- She plays with a big, fat J-Bass sound, similar to John Paul Jones, Geezer Butler from Black Sabbath or Don Brewer from Grand Funk. I saw her last night at a show for the...

    On Stage Banter

In the last band I was in, the singer always had to do the 'introducing the band' thing. To me, this was extremely cheesy and lame. We're just guys in a cover band, not rock stars. It made me want to hide behind an amplifier whenever he did it -- And I did a couple of times, to great comic...

Playing with musicial illiterates. Does it get any worse than this?

I didn't read the whole thread, just the first post. However... I find it really hard to communicate musical terms and directions verbally. I have a hard time explaining it, and also understanding what other people say. I suggest you use some musical transcription software (Freeware or...

    Are you inexperienced?

The links didn't work for me. But I was going to post about how he played a V sometimes. I've also seen some clips where he plays an SG. Those aren't really the guitars he was famous for though.

    Got Fired

Would it have really been so much work to just have them make a recording of each of the songs? It's only 12, right? The recording doesn't have to be good or anything. Even just a casette tape recording placed outside the garage or whatever would have been passable for learning purposes...
