57 P, I bet it sounds sweet! When I was in Nashville for work last year I went to Tootsie's and sat in for a song in a friend of a friends band and got to play a 1956 P bass through an Ampeg B-15. It sounded amazing. Right now, my P is a MIM and not the best quality. I bought a Honey Badger...

Josh Hamm can get insane on his bass playing. We dropped the key of Come Right Now from F to D, so I have to play the D on the B string because it doesn't sound like it flows if I go to the D on the A string. I end up playing about 80-85% of what is written then add my playing style to the...

    Wow, you have a 1960 Fender J bass?:D

I think we have become a Planetshakers cover band at church so occasionally I have a need for a 5 string. I thought about a PJ Classic, I would have to wire it so I can isolate the P pickup with a push/pull switch. Other than that, if I had a Century Standard 5 build I would go with the P...

Hahaha, I had a T-shirt years ago that stated, "I Hear Voices and They Don't Like You." My wife hated that shirt and that is probably why I haven't seen in quite some time.

It is has been a while since I have been on TalkBass, work has been grueling. I am down to only one Roscoe bass now, it is my Classic Custom 4 JJ. I am saving for a 5 string Roscoe P and if Mrs. Crash hadn't made plans to take our adult children and grandchildren to Disney in May, I would...

    SOLD Roscoe Custom Classic PJ

All I have to trade is a natural Ash Fender Elite 5/Maple neck with black block inlay. It comes with both the Fender factory preamp and the J-Retro Deluxe that is currently installed. I do also have a Epifani UL410 4ohm to put in the mix.

If I were to buy another Roscoe that wasn't a Classic, it would most likely be a Century Standard 5 with 19mm spacing. I put the East J-Tone and the Honey Badger Pickups in my Classic Custom and haven't looked back.

Fender American Elite 5 - Preamp Swap?

I love the tone he is getting in the video, thanks for sharing.

I am down to one Roscoe now, just my Classic Custom IV. So, I step away for awhile and SteveC is now a moderator, what in the world? :D

Fender American Elite 5 - Preamp Swap?

I am curious, did you ever upgrade the preamp? I have used the J-Retro and J-Tone preamps in J basses and the passive tone works in both active and passive modes. The J-Retro adds a lot more punch than the J-Tone, the J-Tone is more subtle. I agree, having a passive tone control that works in...

Work has been so busy, I haven't been on TB for a few weeks. Good to see everyone doing well, now back to work for me.

Sounds good Jon but if you can withstand a little constructive criticism... well, it really needs some Cowbell. :D

I had a gloss neck before, it was like playing a Marcus Miller J bass. I took a scotch brite pad to it. I bet the Ebony fingerboard is to die for on that bass.

Honey Badger pickups are more open sounding to me. Greg @RocketMusic did a P bass pickup comparison, he may have a link on his website. I have the jazz pickups in my Classic Custom and it sounds good!
