Roscoe Club

So I’m back in the Roscoe circle.
This one is on the truck and out for delivery.
Anybody recognize this one?

That's a Century Standard Plus? What's that board? It's gorgeous!!!!!
That's a Century Standard Plus 5 with a mahogany (I think) body, quit maple top with a lined Diamondwood board. Bart 18 volt 3 band preamp. It used to have a pair of Bart jazz pups but has been modded with Roscoe dual coil soapbars and coil tap toggles. It was probably the finest fretless I had played when I owned it before the mods. I can imagine that with those mods, there are very few fretless Roscoe's (or other's) that will have the sound of this bass.

See!! Now that's just wrong on so many levels! Steve didn't need to see another of his used-to-be fretless Roscoe basses. Very nice looking Roscoe, though! Those pup mods brought them closer together. They should have a different sound.
Oh well, prepare for maybe another one showing up soon.

It's OK. I had a chance to buy it back but I have tried to stay firm in my commitment to debt reduction. (I will be debt free - except for house and vehicle payments - in 8 days.) And really, as much as I love Roscoe fretless basses, I don't have a real need/use for one. Truthfully, I'd be better off with another fretted 5 (as much as I think I'd like a 4 string P I know I'd miss my B string as another example came up just this week while playing in the pit) with a different electronics. Maybe one with the Aguilar active/passive system or something.

Yes, Steve, mahogany body. Roscoe Bart soapbars in JB positions, center pickup positions unchanged from stock. Series/parallel switches. Pickup and wiring upgrades by Roscoe factory.

So many sounds available between series/parallel opportunities for each pickup, their blends, and use of 18v preamp for seasoning. Roscoe Plek'd Diamondwood fingerboard is of the best I have ever played.

Enjoy, @bassWR !

Like I said, I have preferred Century bodies in the past so...the SKB is taking a risk The reach to 1st fret is different because of the shorter horn. My 1st Roscoe (Purchased from Greg) was an red quilt maple SKB. It's what got me hooked sound wise, but at that point I thought the reach was a little much. Kind of threw me off.

I do like the options the electronics would give me though. Active/passive jazz and and I'm a sucker for quilt/flame maple tops.

 Get him, @RocketMusic! Lure him with the bate, snag him, then reel that bass on in!!

Greg has always been really good to me. I wish I would have known about him earlier in my bass crazy days. I've purchased a number of basses and other items from Greg. My first Roscoe purchase was through Greg. I made him play it for over the phone so I could hear it as I was nervous about buying a bass I had never heard (of) or played. He obliged. I'm sure he thought "what the hell" but he made the sale. Great guy. The Roscoe "Pino" he has is tempting as well, except I know - no matter how har I try not to be - I'm a 5 string player and I keep finding examples every time I play.

Steve,
I suspect that will be the last chance that you'll get to get that one back. Dennis is a bit like a snapping turtle. They won't let go of something until it thunders really loud. The difference though is Dennis plays outside in thunderstorms! He's not afraid of lightning or loud noises!:wacky:
He's likely to take that one to his grave. And of course I'll be at his funeral to negotiate with his wife to take care of it after he's gone.:D

I finally got Kansas' "Song OF America" down well enough to attempt recording and playing over it (with most of the bass removed using Gold Wave). The only problem is that Hope plays with a lot of treble on the tune so so you can still hear a lot of the bass parts. I installed the DR Hi Beams for this one (on my SKB-3005 Signature). I had to play through the entire song without over dubs too because it isn't in sync with my "click" track in Reason. So ...... you'll hear a few notes a bit off (and it would have a been a pain to fix it.
But it was lots of fun trying to cop the sound and feel of the song. Again, it makes me realize just how good of a bass player Dave Hope is! I couldn't imagine doing a full set (or two) of tunes like this one!:jawdrop:

Note: I had to shorten the song because it was too big to upload to TB. At any rate you'll still probably think it's too long!:D

I installed the D'addario Chrome Flats back on my Roscoe and recorded Song For America (again) and was surprised that it didn't sound that much different. Maybe it's the Alesis Nano compressor. They sound relative close even when soloed. Hummmmmm........

The Chrome Flats sure feel better (to my hands) ..... and probably to my frets too!
