We've got one in now we are researching...label is interesting but we're taught to believe labels last. The bass itself is not even remotely French.

We just acquired some Gibson bass forms (and cello too). No real plans for them right now...just took the opportunity to own them and add them to the collection. I'm sure we'll do something with them someday!

Bill Fulton (violinmaker) was a big proponent of pressed tops of violins, and it would get heated at VSA conventions back in the 90's. Search Bills name on Google and I'm sure there are articles about what he was doing. My only experience with tops I knew was pressed were these crappy...

A lot of scrolls break there...its kind of a design flaw with the pegbox walls falling outside the neck...the load is unsupported and on a very small amount of grain. I'm not sure what Robbie is doing, haven't seen one, but if you can pull and train the scroll back to zero, an inlaid nut can...

You can (sculpt) balance out the tone of a bass with the body size, so you could take a bass like our 5/8 bohemian and our Kloz model...both have the same string length (40" to 40.5" depending on the customers choice) but they have very different ranges due to the air volume of the body. So...

Knowing we make & sell them, and that I obviously have a "dog in the hunt" here, IMO a laminated flatback and a solid wood flat back get dangerously close to each other tone wise in pizz, but the gap widens dramatically under the bow. The reason for the closeness is bracing and mechanics.

It's just a matter of taste how one orients the figure. Some makers flip one side to give the illusion of a one-piece back too.
